NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC Conference baseball PLAYERS OF THE WEEK WEEK ENDING 2/26/17 PLAYER of the Week doug carter jr • Rutgers University-Camden Senior • Outfielder • Union, NJ/Union Carter earns NJAC Player of the Week honors after hitting .500 (7-for-14) with a double, a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored during three games played for the Scarlet Raptors in Fayetteville, NC. He hit safely in all three contests and opened his senior season by going 4-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base, an RBI and three runs scored in Camden’s season-opening 7-5 win over Mitchell. He wrapped up the week by going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in an 8-6 defeat to host Methodist. Carter currently ranks second in the NJAC in slugging percentage (.786). PITCHER of the Week mike occhi • Kean University Senior • Left-handed Pitcher • Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough Occhi earns NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after leading the Cougars to a 6-3 victory over FDU-Florham. In his second appearance of the season, he tossed 5.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one walk and three hits while striking out six to garner his second victory of the year. Occhi, who has not surrendered a run in 10.0 innings of work on the season, currently leads the NJAC in opposing batting average (.114). ROOKIE of the Week matthew stoots • Rutgers University-Camden Freshman • Third Base • Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Stoots earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after hitting .571 (4-for-7) with a walk and an RBI in three games played for the Scarlet Raptors in Fayetteville, NC. He kicked off his collegiate career by registering hits in each of his first four at-bats, including a 3-for-3 performance with a walk and an RBI in Camden’s season-opening 7-5 win over Mitchell. He also pitched two scoreless innings during the trip, surrendering just one hit while striking out two. Stoots currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in on-base percentage (.625). ROOKIE pitcher of the Week austin arndt • Kean University Freshman • Right-handed Pitcher • Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon Arndt earns NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors after notching his first save of the season during Kean’s 10-5 victory over DeSales. He surrendered just two hits and one walk during 3.0 innings of relief. He also struck out four while allowing just one earned run to extend Kean’s seasonopening win-streak to four games. Arndt currently ranks tied for 11th in the NJAC in strikeouts (4).
