The SeaChange Trust JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Senior Producer Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Reports to: Chief Executive Direct Reports: Producer, Community Programme Co-ordinator, Coasters Project Development Manager, Caretaker Starting Salary: £31,000-£35,000 depending on experience SeaChange Arts SeaChange Arts provides transformational opportunities for artists and communities by supporting, hosting and delivering world class international circus and street arts projects and events. Our work encompasses: The Drill House – a recently refurbished 15,000 square foot, 800 audience capacity Creation Centre housing artists in residence, participatory activities and events The Out There International Festival of Street Arts and Circus – now approaching its 10th edition, this is one of foremost festivals of its kind in the UK A growing year round program of projects, events and commissions Extensive international and national network partnerships including the Without Walls outdoor arts consortium, ‘Coasters’ – a touring network across coastal towns and the ‘Up and Out’ Creation Residency network Main focus of the role: The Senior Producer will lead the planning and delivery of SeaChange’s programme of artistic and participatory programs of activity working closely with the Chief Executive/Artistic director and other members of the team. Principle tasks: Strategic: Develop and deliver a coherent year-round programme of inspiring and engaging outdoor arts events produced in collaboration with community members and professional artists Develop and deliver a coherent year-round programme of inspiring and engaging regular events at the Drill House produced in collaboration with community members and professional artists to engage different sectors of the local and regional community and informed by SeaChange Arts Audience Development Plan Work in partnership with national and international companies, producers and other festivals to develop the SeaChange Arts program and identify opportunities for touring work regionally, nationally and internationally Commission inspiring and engaging outdoor arts and indoor/outdoor circus events produced in collaboration with community members and professional artists Develop SeaChange’s role as a producer of exceptional outdoor arts and circus, working with artists to co-produce new shows and projects and secure funding and resources Work in partnership with other arts organisations to bring together a wide range of skills and experience to support artists in producing work, including commissioning and presenting new work Support the continual professional development of artists by identifying and creating opportunities for training Build the role of SeaChange and the Out There Festival as a key focus and gateway for the sector on a national and international level Seek and develop opportunities for SeaChange to produce festivals and events in other locations Projects: In collaboration with the Chief Executive program and produce the annual Out There Festival Grow community engagement with the Out There Festival Programme through a program of participatory performances as part of the festival program Develop a financial model and fundraising strategy which enables the delivery of a ‘core’ festival program and additional projects Oversee artist’s residencies and events based in the Drill House Work with the Community Programme Co-ordinator and resident companies to devise a program of regular creative activity in the Drill House. Oversee the Community Programme Co-ordinator to deliver this program Program and produce festivals and events around the country as required Operational: Work with the Development Director to allocate and monitor project budgets and maintain financial and project recording systems to enable effective and efficient reporting to funders and the board of trustees Ensure all work is delivered in line with SeaChange Arts policies and procedures. Work with team members on marketing and promotion of events including inputting into marketing plans, copywriting and proofing marketing materials. Contribute to the evaluation of projects including collation of monitoring information and undertaking evaluation with artists, companies and the community Oversee the management of volunteers/work placements recruited to support the delivery of events and artistic activity Implementation of performance management systems for direct reports including monthly reviews and 6 month/annual appraisals and identification of training needs Manage freelance staff as required Oversee the Drill House operations, facilities and equipment and associated staff, ensuring that they are enabled to carry out their tasks efficiently and effectively and all training needs are met for the efficient, effective and safe running of the building Develop, maintain and manage Drill House Health and Safety Policies, operations manual, risk assessment and licenses Oversee the efficient and effective management of the storage of equipment in the Ice House and SeaChange’s other spaces. Continual Professional Development and Training: Undertake relevant training and professional development to fulfil all aspects of the role including maintaining an in-date First Aid qualification. Any other duties reasonably compatible with/arising from the duties specified above and in line with the scope of the post. Maintain an up to date DBS check status REVIEW ARRANGEMENTS SeaChange Arts is a fast developing organization and it is to be expected that this post may change and evolve over time. Changes to the role will be subject to periodic review in consultation with the post holder. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential At least 2 years experience of leading and inspiring a team in delivering arts projects and events Experience of event management and planning, including working with a wide range of external contractors, partners and bodies Experience of programming, producing new work and developing audiences A passion for the performing arts and a commitment to achieving artistic excellence and fantastic audience experiences Understanding of the Arts funding systems including Arts Council funding Experience of managing participatory arts experiences for communities Experience and understanding of venue management and operations Excellent planning, organizational and communication skills Experience of setting and managing large budgets Understanding and experience of security, safety and licensing issues for indoor and outdoor events Ability to represent the organization effectively across a range of contexts including meetings with stakeholders, partners, artists, funders and the general public Experience in managing volunteers Team player with a consistent positive attitude Numerate and experienced in common office software Good level administrative skills Ability to deal confidently and positively with people of all levels across a wide range of contexts Ability to meet demanding targets within tight deadlines and work under pressure A high level of self-motivation Ability to think creatively and solve problems Desirable Experience and tenacity in resource development – initiating projects from scratch, fundraising and realizing projects Experience in commercial operations Conditions Contract Type: Hours: Main working location: Annual Leave: Permanent 37.5 hours per week. The post will involve weekend, evening and late-night working for which no additional remuneration will be offered; SeaChange Arts operates a Time Off In Lieu system.
