2015 WATER CONSERVATION INFORMATION

2015 WATER CONSERVATION INFORMATION:
This year we have experienced the lowest snow pack and warmest temperatures on record.
Although Kearns Improvement District is not restricting water usage, we are encouraging
residents to voluntarily change their watering habits. Watering recommendations include:
•
Water ONLY when needed.
•
Put sprinklers on a manual setting instead of automatic.
•
Water manually ensuring more efficient watering by focusing on spots that need it.
•
Water at night, between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to reduce evaporation.
•
Avoid watering after a rainstorm.
•
Adjust sprinkler nozzles and spacing to minimize spray on non-living things.
Almost two thirds of our water use is due to outdoor watering. By following these few
simple steps 1,000’s of gallons can be saved.
Visit www.conservewater.utah.gov/guide.html for a weekly watering guide and
www.jvwcd.org for additional watering and conservation tips.
Note: Pop-up sprinkler systems should run for about 20 minutes each time and rotary systems for about 40
minutes each time or sufficient to put out 1/2” water. You can measure the 1/2” of water with a tuna fish can
or margarine tub.
By conserving water, you help lower
your bill and ensure quality drinking
water for generations to come
