Instructor provides contact and availability information ex. email address, office location, office
hrs online and offline etc. Sets expectations for availability and feedback to learners
Instructor suggests a road map or a course approach suggestion such as, first read instructor notes,
then read text references and try learning activities… Try to submit assignment within 2 weeks of
completing suggested work. Quiz will be accessible when assignment mark is allotted…etc.

Content aligns with and supports the learning objectives/outcomes for the course.
Content requires students to make appropriate and effective use of external resources such as
textbooks, library, other web-based resources etc.
Content includes appropriate information on how to do research.
Content is made available to students in manageable modules, units, lessons, or chapters etc.

C. CONTENT DELIVERY
Technology used to deliver content is suited to the content with links to downloads such as media
players etc. where necessary.
Student connectivity issues are taken into consideration.
Content materials include files for students to download and use off-line (ex. PowerPoint, PDF,
audio files, video files etc.)
Content materials include media variety such as print, audio, video, animation, graphics etc.
Content materials are enhanced through appropriate use of affiliated tools such as glossary, selftests, bookmarks, search etc.
Web-based content materials incorporate and reference the off-line content materials.
All content materials are clear and concise.

D. LEARNING ACTIVITIES and INTERACTIVITY
Course incorporates activities designed to engage the senses, motivate students and increase
learning. Ex. making, creating, doing, completing, contacting, etc
Course provides opportunities for exploration, self-directed learning, and/or further pursuit of
individual interests.
Course provides ample opportunities for self-assessment through exercises, drills, self-tests etc. that
are marked but not included in student’s final grade.
Course provides opportunities for peer-evaluation and/or discussion.
Instructor takes an active role in discussions.
Course utilizes other interactivity tools such as Whiteboard, Student Homepages, Student
Presentations etc.
The requirements for participation are stated clearly.

E. MARKS and ASSIGNMENTS
A breakdown of marks is included such as Assignments 20%, Tests 20%, Participation 20%, Final
Examination 40%…etc.
The amount of work assigned is suited to the level of the students.
Assignments align directly to stated objectives and content.
Assignments are included that require students to make appropriate and effective use of external
resources such as libraries, websites, resource persons.
Assignments are included that provide students with opportunities to practice and apply concepts
and skills in realistic and relevant ways.
Assignments are included that cause students to work at the higher levels of Bloom’s taxonomy
and to employ critical thinking strategies.
Mechanisms are in place to prevent or reduce opportunities for cheating.
Feedback from submitted assignments, including mark allotment and comments will be made
available to students.
Guidelines for earning grades are provided such as: students who contribute to discussions 8-10
times, write 200 words per assignment using the suggested resources plus others….etc will earn an
A; students who….will earn a B and so on.

F. ADDRESSING LEARNER NEEDS
Although instructor may include a road map or suggest course proceedings, user control is
included.
Instructor uses multiple methods to achieve learning outcomes.
Course addresses a variety of learning styles such as: visual presentations through graphs and
graphics, sound files for auditory learners, opportunities for abstract learners to work with theory
first and concrete learners to work with examples first, discovery activities for adult learners and
constructivists, logical sequences and overviews for cognitive learners.
Outside references to learning styles, study skills, critical reading skills etc. are included.
References to learner services such as counseling, workshops, tutoring etc. are included (Such as
in ‘Start Up’ information suggestion)

G. COURSE INTEGRITY
Course content and requirements are as demanding as a face-to-face course with equivalent
content.
Course is instructional – it does not only present information but it includes interactivity with
others and with the content.
Students are given an opportunity to participate in the evaluation of the course.
