“Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled... Believe in God. Believe in
Me.”
John 14:1-11
Scripture seems to indicate there are two kinds of inner turmoil
1- _________ Turmoil John 13:21; Romans 9:1-3
2- _____________ Turmoil John 14:1
Question: How is an unholy unbelieving troubled heart overcome?
Main Point: “Don’t be troubled. Trust me, and in trusting me, trust God.”
5 Reasons to not be in turmoil but to trust Jesus...
1-- Don’t be troubled, but trust me, because my Father has many ________
in His house and each of you will have one. John 14:2
a-- This is God’s house, not His _________
b-- It never runs out of room
c-- There is a room designated and designed for all who are alive in Christ
2-- Don’t be troubled, but trust me, because I myself am going to make
_______ the place of dwelling with God. John 14:2-3a
Is this about the room or the way to the room? John 14:4-6
3-- Don’t be troubled, but trust me, because I myself will be your ________
and I will get you there. John 14:3
Is there encouragement for us closer than our death or resurrection? Look at
Philip’s question in John 14:8. This leads us to the 4th point.
4-- Don’t be troubled, but trust me, because the very Father, who has a
place for you in His eternal presence, is with you _________... John 14:7-11
“That’s all fine but you went away... Now you are gone...”
5-- Don’t be troubled, but trust me, because I am with you always. Not just
at my _________... John 14:16-18
Romans 8:9-10

Homework
Read the text: John 11:1-11 Take time as you read through it together to make
careful observations about the text.
1-- Share one thing in your group that stood out to you in this passage and the
Sunday sermon on this passage.
2-- Part of Christlikeness, christian living is trouble of soul. True or False?
What is the difference between unholy unbelieving turmoil and holy turmoil?
John 13:21; John 16:33; John 11:32-33-Why was Jesus troubled here?
3-- In what way does this passage make the worth of Jesus even greater to you?
4-- Jesus made it clear that we don’t have to wait to be with Him and the Father.
He and the Father are with us now. Is there a danger of being so focused on a
future in heaven and its benefits that we don’t receive comfort from knowing God
is with us now? What is the difference between being heaven centered and God
centered? How can this get in the way of growing faith?
Psalm 9:10; 11:1; 56:11 Isaiah 26:3
5-- What are some “cultural” ideas about heaven both in secular society and
even in the church that are not scriptural?
6-- Read Romans 8:9-10. If this passage were a treasure box, what are some of
the gold coins?
