Tips & Tricks 1: Setting homework collection reminders

As a teacher with a Show My Homework account, you can set reliable email notifications to help you remember
when homework is due to be collected. Notifications are sent straight to your inbox in the morning and can be
turned on and off at any time.
●
Please follow these 4 simple steps:

Login to Show My Homework
○
Click on Settings
○
Tick the Email Notifications check box
○
Click on Update Teacher

Tips & Tricks 2: Student search and homework calendar view
Teaching and non-teaching staff can search for individual student by name and view their homework calendars.
More specifically, they can view the:
Quality & quantity of homework set by other teachers
Due & upcoming assignment(s)
Completed & overdue assignment(s)
When the student last logged in

Login to Show My Homework
Go to Settings
Click on Students
Enter the student’s name in the search box
Click on the student’s name to view his/her homework calendar

Tips & Tricks 3: Paperless grading for online submissions
For homework asked to be submitted online, you can assess them straight from your Show My Homework teacher
account.
Our ‘assess online’ feature utilises cutting edge technology that allows teachers to attach comments within
documents, in-line editing paragraphs and highlight students’ work.
Providing frequent and relevant feedback helps students make improvements that are imperative to furthering their
academic achievement.

Login to Show My Homework
Go to Gradebook and search for the homework you’d like to assess online
Click on Add grades or View class list
Click on Click to annotate
Click Close once you're done marking. Comments are saved automatically and you can always go back
to it at a later time.

Tips & Tricks 4: Setting homework in advance
Homework assignments will not appear on the school and student calendars until the issue week; hence teachers
can create and post homework in advance (e.g. days, weeks and months).
Once a piece of homework has been created, it will always appear on the teachers’ personal homework calendar
and they will be able to edit the following:
o
Homework title & description
o
Class & subject
o
Completion time
o
Issue & due dates
o

Tips & Tricks 5: Need a quick last minute assignment?
Teachers have access to a plethora of resources on Show My Homework (i.e. school and store resources) that are
all complimentary and instantly re-usable for any class. Looking for a last minute assignment has never been
easier.

Tips & Tricks 6: Homework reports - Overview
Can’t remember how much homework you’ve set the past 7 days, 2 weeks, month, etc? With just a few clicks, you
can generate a concise ‘overview’ of all of the homework you’ve set during a specific time frame.
Please follow these 4 simple steps:
Login to Show My Homework
Go to Settings > Homework Reports > Overview
Adjust the filters (e.g. start & end dates, year, class, etc.)
View report straight from your account or export into Excel/PDF

Tips & Tricks 7: Homework reports - Issued Homework
To generate a report(s) on the ‘quality & quantity’ of the homework you’ve set, please follow these steps:

Go to Settings > Homework reports > Issued Homework
Adjust the filters (e.g. start & end dates, year, class, etc.)
Click View to get more details on the ‘quality’ of work set
View report or export into Excel

Tips & Tricks 8: Quick assignment look up & instant reuse
There's a quick way to look up homework assignments that you've previously created and posted on Show My
Homework. Simply follow these 4 simple steps:

Login to Show My Homework.
Click on Resources > My Resources.
Use the filters (i.e. types, years, subjects) or use the search box provided.
Once you've found what you’re looking for, simply click on Use Resource to instantly reuse the assignment for
one of your other classes.

Tips & Tricks 9: Quizzes
Switch things up. Make recall and retention of school materials a bit more fun with our quiz creation feature.
How does it work? Simply follow these 6 simple steps:

Login to Show My Homework
Click on Create > Quiz
Create as many quiz questions as you’d like
Enter one correct answer and at least one incorrect answer
Attach a picture to accompany each question (optional)
Once you’re done, click Publish Your Quiz
Before the due date, students will have three different opportunities to complete the quiz and you’ll receive instant
score notifications in your gradebook.

Tips & Tricks 10: Student & parent registration letters (1 of 2)
Show My Homework school administrators can print login details for students and parents by doing the following:

Login to Show My Homework
Click on Settings
On the left hand side, select Registration Letters
Select the year group, registration class or search by individual student
Tick the Address to parents check box
Press Select All or select by individual student
Press Filter
Click on Get Letters or export to Excel by clicking the green XLS button
Note: Once parents and students login, their accounts will automatically link up.

Tips & Tricks 10: Student & parent registration letters (2 of 2)
FAQs:
1.
Can I export all of the usernames and temporary passwords into Excel? Yes you can. Simply click the Excel icon to do this.
2.
Can I generate letters addressed to students? Yes you can. Click on the Get Letters button.
3.
Can I generate letters addressed to parents? Yes you can. Tick the Address to parents check box and click on Get Letters.
4.
Can I generate a letter for one student? Yes you can. Simply type in the student’s name in the search box and click Filter.
5.
What happens if a parent or student has trouble logging in (i.e. loses or forgets their login details)? They can contact the school
or SMHW directly. If they have an existing account, with an email attached, they can reset their password on our website.
6.
Can the parent register for an account on the Show My Homework website? No. The only way parents can get access is to
contact the school or Show My Homework directly.
7.
Why don’t all my students have a Registration Letter? That is because they already have an existing Show My Homework account.
