SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES OF FIRST TWO

SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES OF FIRST TWO SCRUTINY REPORTS
The Corporate Services and Health, Social Security and Housing Scrutiny
Panels have received the responses from the relevant Ministers about their
respective reports on Population and Migration and Respite Care for Children
and Young Adults in the Island.
The Chairman of the Health, Social Security and Housing Panel Deputy
Kristina Moore stated “I am very pleased with the outcome of the review and
the response from the Minister. It shows that she and her Department have
really taken on board our recommendations. We sincerely hope that the
Minister will be able to make the improvements necessary to this service and
we will be following its progress in terms of the Medium Term Financial Plan”
The Chairman of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel for this review was
Deputy James Reed who also expressed his pleasure at the acceptance of
the recommendations but stated: “The Panel will be monitoring the
implementation of the recommendations to ascertain whether the Minister
meets the target dates.”
The President of the Chairmen’s Committee stated “This is an exceptionally
good result for Scrutiny and reflects the approach that Scrutiny agreed to
take at the start of the year. These pieces of work were thorough, well
researched and well thought out; they did not set out to criticise the Minister
and Departments but to look at the facts and the needs of the Island
community. They have been able to make specific and measurable
recommendations. It is now important that Scrutiny follows up on monitoring
the implementation of the recommendations. If the recommendations are not
implemented as stated, Scrutiny is entitled to bring propositions to the States
for debate to mandate the Minister to implement them and to stress the
importance of the review”
