Katy Taylor and Mag West
The Lady Spartans volleyball team played two matches this week – a non-district
contest against Katy Taylor and their first district game against Magnolia West.
Katy Taylor’s height proved too much as the Spartans lost 3-0 in an away game at
Taylor. Caroline Harger led the way on offense with 6 kills, while Grace Shea-han (5
kills) and Mirella Brocklehurst (4 kills) contributed as well. On the defensive side,
Virginia Herring and Jaclyn Swanson had 8 digs and 5 digs, respectively.
In their first district contest, the Lady Spartans played a close contest against Magnolia
West, but lost 3-0 in front of another enthusiastic Stratford America home
crowd. Facing a stout Magnolia West defense, Grace Shea-han managed 9 kills, and
Brooke Benton, Mirella Brocklehurst, Caroline Harger, Jaclyn Swanson and Kate
Thomas all added kills for the Spartans. On the defensive side, Kate Thomas led the
front line with 4 blocks and Mirella Brocklehurst had 3 blocks. Stratford’s back row
defense was spearheaded by Virginia Herring (15 digs), Grace Shea-han (12 digs),
Jaclyn Swanson (9 digs) and Hannah Lee (8 digs).
