Dear Parents of MTHS Freshmen, Sophomores & Juniors:
“Project Graduation: Friends for Life” has become a delightful tradition for Montville Township High School’s graduating
seniors. Its tremendous success is the reason we are celebrating over 30 years of the program with our 2017 graduates.
Sparked by a community tragedy in 1984, Project Graduation is the longest-running program in the State of New Jersey
aimed at preventing tragedies caused by alcohol or drug abuse. The Montville Township Drug Awareness Council (DAC)
hosts this event and we are asking you for support to ensure its continued success.
Project Graduation will be held on Tuesday, June 20th from approximately 10:00pm – 4:00am, at the Jewish Community
Center in West Orange. The event will include a DJ, swimming, volleyball, basketball, laser tag, casino games and a wide
variety of special activities and entertainers. There will be a continuous supply of food and drinks throughout the
evening, followed by a continental breakfast provided around 3AM. Graduates will be bussed to and from the
celebration from the MTHS parking lot. This event ensures everyone’s safety.
Traditionally underclassmen parents “pay it forward” by staffing this event for graduating seniors. However, for the past
few years this event has gradually fallen onto the shoulders of senior parents. Please volunteer to serve on one of the
many committees or to attend the event for one shift during the night of graduation. Your help will ensure the quality
and the continuance of this program for years to come. Attached you will find a sign-up sheet for volunteers which
briefly describes the responsibilities of each committee or shift.
DAC also relies heavily on the support of all parents and local businesses for donations. We greatly appreciate your
contributions. With the support of everyone in the community, this event is a safe graduation celebration.
Please make your donation check payable to "Montville Project Graduation” and mail it in as soon as possible. June 9th
is the deadline. Please mail your contribution, along with your Volunteer Form, to Project Graduation, 195 Changebridge
Road, Montville, NJ 07045. Your support helps to ensure a safe celebration for all MTHS graduates.

2017 PROJECT GRADUATION VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
CHAPERONES: The role of the chaperone is simply to supervise an area or doorway for the assigned shift and enjoy the
experience of watching graduates have an alcohol and drug free night. Three shifts are available: 10 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.;
12:00a.m. – 2:30a.m.; and from 2:00 – 4:30 a.m. Please note that it is always very difficult getting volunteers for the last
shift.
KITCHEN VOLUNTEERS: Assist with serving all food from dinner through breakfast to students, and with setting
up/breaking down food areas. There are three shifts available: 9:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.; 12:00 – 2:30 a.m.; and from 2:00
– 4:30 a.m.
DECORATING VOLUNTEERS: Assist in decorating the facility prior to the arrival of the graduates from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
No senior parents please since this takes place during the graduation ceremony.
TRANSPORTATION VOLUNTEERS: Chaperones will help supervise the cafeteria, rotunda, and hallways as graduates
return to the high school after the graduation ceremony. This shift takes place from 8:30 – 11:00 p.m.
DESSERT FEAST VOLUNTEERS: Baking desserts, setting up and/or serving desserts at the Dessert Feast to be held
Thursday, June 8th at MTHS. Volunteers are also needed to sell tickets and distribute promotional items at the Dessert
Feast. Volunteers must be available in the morning to help, though bakers can drop off their contributions at the school
that morning.
