Shiatsu College DUBLIN Certificate in Japanese Massage Level one of Shiatsu Diploma Course This is a stand-alone Certificate course. It is the first stage of a three year programme that will allow you to become a fully qualified Shiatsu Practitioner. This year focuses on developing your awareness of the client’s body with emphasis on using the traditional methods of the Japanese massage therapy called Shiatsu. This is a unique opportunity to achieve a qualification in Japanese massage techniques. The basis of this training comes from the teachings of Shiatsu and Japanese bodywork and an understanding of anatomy. Experiential Japanese Massage - giving and receiving- is the core of the course. What will I learn? The Outline Syllabus: Self Development Each module has a distinct emphasis and theme. They are designed so that some modules can be taken individually. For a deeper, more integrated learning, we strongly advise you to consider several or all modules. Students must complete all modules and assessments in order to receive their certificate. Meridian stretches. Module 2 Prone Position - (2 weekends) Oct 15th & 16th 2016 Nov 19th & 20th 2016 This module will explore the use of palm pressure, stretching and thumbing. You will learn to treat the Bladder, Kidney and Small Intestine channels in prone position i.e. client is lying face down. You will learn how to protect and strengthen your own posture with the practise of Qigong and Do-in exercises. You will explore techniques such as rotations and stretches to alleviate postural misalignment and injuries. What you will learn Exercises & posture work Working the shoulders, back, hips, legs, ankles & feet in prone position. Alleviate Back Problems- Tension & Weakness Postural Aches and Pains Soft Tissue & Facia release techniques Rotations. Classical Meridians Channels o Bladder o Kidney o Small Intestine Shiatsu College DUBLIN Module 3 Supine Position - (2 weekends) Dec 17th & 18th 2016 Jan 21st & 22nd 2017 This module focuses on the Supine position, ie lying on the back. The abdominal area, referred to as the Hara, is central to Shiatsu in giving, receiving, diagnosis and treatment. In this module you will learn to develop Hara awareness you will explore how this helps you to centre and distribute your own body weight. What you will learn Hara Awareness Exercises & meditation to develop a stronger Hara Ampuku-treatment technique fo the Hara Rotations and Stretching of joints and muscles. Classical Meridians o Stomach o Spleen o Lung o Large Intestine o Heart Module 4 Side Position - (2 weekends) Feb 18th & 19th 2017 Mar 25th & 26th 2017 In this module we introduce the Dragon Mouth technique in side position. In this position you will find how you can stretch and develop different access to the body. You will discover another level of freedom and movement. Shiatsu College DUBLIN Module 5 Developing Energetic Connection (1 Day) Apr 22nd 2017 If we drop a pebble into the middle of a quiet pond we see the ripple effect of this action growing outwards towards it edges. To feel this ripple and sense its movement is the same as the energy movement in the body. Same with Ki, one movement creates so many effects. In this module you will explore the awareness of our own energy field and how the ripple movement affects us all. What you will learn Awareness of your own body's restriction. Sensing your own body energy. Meditation Module 6 Listening Skills, Self Care and Clinical Ethics (1 Day) Apr 23rd 2017 This module explores listening skills and minding yourself in the therapeutic relationship. In this module you will learn to listen to a client skilfully and to grow your understanding of the co-operative relationship between practitioner and client. We will also learn how to create safer boundaries in a clinical practice. What you will learn The Client-practitioner Relationship Boundaries Clinical Ethics Practitioner Self Care Shiatsu College DUBLIN Extra Module (optional)* Chair Massage Reduced rate for students: €160 for 2 day workshop May 20th & 21st 2017 In this module you will learn to give Japanese Massage in the seated position using a professional massage chair. On-site chair massage allows you to be mobile in your practice. You can bring your business to the client’s workplace and into their homes. This module will focus on the correct posture and the use of body weight to apply techniques. What you will learn The use of hands, thumbs and forearms to apply pressure. To release back, neck and shoulder tension. Alleviate back pain. Joint Mobilisation. Pressure points for common ailments. Assessment Throughout the year students will be continuously assessed based on their practical and theoretical knowledge. A total of 60 case studies will have to be submitted (this is an average of 2 per week). *Students without a qualification in Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) will be required to obtain one.
