CURRICULUM PLAN FOR Summer 1 Year 3

CURRICULUM PLAN FOR Summer 1 Year 3-4.
Literacy
Our topic on ‘Instructional Texts’ will be closely linked to both our
Science and RE work and the children will have the opportunity to apply
their skills in a cross-curricular way. We will also be learning about form
and image in poetry, as well as doing some performance poetry.
Whole school PHONICS with Read Write inc. will continue and more
children will move on to SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)
sessions.
Numeracy
This half-term we will be focusing on fractions, division and money as well
as continuing to work on place value.
The push for greater mental maths skills will continue- please take every
opportunity to test your children on the x2, x3, x4, x5, x8 and x10

This half-term is all about Science. We have two Science topics ‘How
Does Your Garden Grow?’ which is all about plants, and ‘Who Lives In A
Place Like This?’ which is about habitats and adaptation.
This year, Music will be taught by Mr. Lee and Mrs. Jordan.
Mrs. Jordan will also be teaching the children French each week.
We have PE on Tuesday afternoon with our new teacher. Don’t forget
your PE kit!
We will be learning about dependence and Christian values. They will also
learn about the history of St. George’s and St. Patrick’s Day.
Share reading books with your child and bring reading books to school
EVERY day and help them to practice any spellings they are given to take
home.
During election week, we will also be doing some work on democracy and
what the election means. Please take the opportunity to share and
discuss this with your class.
