Lutheran School Vol. 23 No. 33 May 9, 2008 Gazette page 3 1st & 2nd Grade News Today we say “Goodbye” and THANK YOU! to Miss Friend, who has been our teacher for the last eight weeks. We’ve learned so much from her, reading, math, writing, and of course – BIRDS! On May 17th, Miss Friend will graduate from Martin Luther College and be assigned to a WELS classroom somewhere in the U.S. As she begins her teaching ministry we wish her God’s most wonderful blessings and that He will always walk with her and guide her! graduation piece for June 1st. The upper graders will have to supply the alto line, so we will be drilling for the big final gig. And don’t forget. Wednesday will be the class trip to Chicago! Lots to do! 3rd & 4th Grade New For the 2008 Law Day Poster Contest sponsored by the Jefferson County Courthouse, we had 3 winners: Olivia Prost received 1st place for her portrayal of what life would be like in our country, if we did not have specific laws to protect our rights and freedoms. Abbey Jaeger received 2nd place for her illustration of one of the freedoms we enjoy because of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution – the Freedom of Religion. And 3rd place went to Kaitlin Lange who depicted on her poster another freedom we Americans have because of the 1st Amendment – the Freedom of the Press. Congratulations to all three winners. A job well done! 3rd & 4th graders will be singing for Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 11th at the 7:45 am service. Please have your child meet me in the church basement by 7:30 am so we can run through our songs, warm up our voices, and get seated in front of the church by 7:45. Thanks Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms! 5th & 6th Grade News Our final science chapter is under way. This last episode in health science deals with nutrition, and the problem of malnutrition. Part of our study will be a check-up on what we eat in general on a weekend, followed by a research project on the diets of different cultures. With all the possible health threats in the world, we all need to practice good health habits. More and more people are coming home in the big Math Race. It may be that some students will come up a little short, but the margin will not be great. Keep you informed as the last seconds of this race are ticking off to the last ones. We are beginning our practice of the 7th & 8th Grade News Our Chicago trip finally is here. Please check the notes sent home. We’ll leave at 6:00 in the morning; and look forward to a great day in the “Windy City”. Thanks to all who participated in our class trip fundraisers. It will cost each participant only $5 to go… The class is reading the book – “Prince Caspian” from the Narnia series. We would like to go to the new movie out soon when we have finished. We’ll be going to a special showing for us on the 20th of this month.
