A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
COMING UP:
Please mark your calendars
for these upcoming holidays:
April 14th - Good Friday
May 29th - Memorial Day
July 4th - Independence Day
Meals are not delivered on designated
agency holidays.
NUTRITION TIP:
Drinking Enough Fluids
It’s important for your body to have plenty of
fluids each day. Water helps you digest your
food, absorb nutrients, and then get rid of the
unused waste.
With age, some people may lose their sense
of thirst. To further complicate matters,
some medicines might make it even more
important to have plenty of fluids.
Drinking enough fluids every day also is
essential if you exercise regularly. Check with
your doctor, however, if you’ve been told to
limit how much you drink.

As the CEO of the company that oversees the Meals
on Wheels and More program I count it a great joy for
us to be able to serve so many people in the Tennessee
Valley. Serving others and making a difference in the
lives of families, children and seniors is our desire. We
hold in high regard the trust the community has in us
to prepare and deliver meals to 320 people on a daily
basis. We also believe our commitment to you is based
on a promise. And we take that seriously. We love this
work, and we want to prove it. You allow us in your
home and in your lives – and that matters to us. We
are always open to hearing from our clients and being
able to serve you, and our community in other ways.
Please let us know how we can help. If we cannot do
so directly, then we may be able to work with others
in the community to meet a specific need. Whether
you are a client or a supporter I hope you enjoy this
first newsletter prepared for the Meals on Wheels and
More program.

OUR VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers for Meals on
Wheels & More range from
veterans with more than
40 years of meal deliveries
to those who have just

begun their service to their
communities. Ron Shepherd is one such newbie.
Joining MOW&M as a volunteer in 2016, Ron has
become one of the program’s dedicated volunteers
who commits an hour and half one day a week to
deliver 15 meals to homebound clients. As a retiree,
Ron believes he is in a position to give back for all that
he has been given over the years. After only one year
of deliveries, Ron now thinks of his clients as family.
OUR MISSION
DAILY CAMPAIGN RAISES $31K+
As a partner in the annual fundraising campaign, The
Decatur Daily has been instrumental in generating
contributions to the MOW&M operating budget.
This year The Daily collected more than $31,000 for
MOW&M to help supplement funding received each
year from United Way of Morgan County. At $1.20
per meal, a $10 donation will fund 8 meals, $25 funds
21 meals and $100 funds 83 meals for our elderly and
homebound clients. We accept donations all year and
checks may be made payable to Meals On Wheels
& More. If you are interested in being a MOW&M
donor, please send your contribution to 1909 Central
Parkway SW, Decatur AL, 35601.
ADOPT • A • ROUTE
The Adopt-A-Route program is a great way to
serve homebound residents in Morgan County.
We are recruiting volunteers from church
groups, retirees and others who have time
to donate during the day to deliver meals.
We need volunteer drivers to adopt a meal
route for meal delivery during the week.
Most routes require a commitment of only
1-2 hours per day. Volunteer one day a
week or one day a month. It’s up to you!
Call Kris at 256.351.6850 or Cindy at
256.260.3103 for more information.
ANIMEALS
We provide pet food and kitty litter to Meals
on Wheels & More recipients for their pets in
partnership with the Animal Friends Humane
Society. Pets must be spayed or neutered.
Pet food is delivered to client’s home once
per month. Call 256.351.6850 for more info.
As the parent company,
Community Action Partnership
of North Alabama, a results-driven
non-profit business, is committed to
reducing or eliminating the causes and
consequences of poverty.
STAY ACTIVE, STAY HEALTHY
Staying healthy is important at any age. With
good health not only comes living a longer life
but also living a better life. In order to stay
healthy, activity is the key. Not everyone loves
to hit the gym and run a few miles. If that
sounds like you, then take on an activity that
you do enjoy and you will be more likely to
stick with it for the long haul.
Healthy activity is not always physical. Keep
your mind sharp through mental exercise.
Simple activities such as playing cards, engaging
in word games or completing Sudoku puzzles
are all mental challenges that help keep our
minds sharper and healthier.
