Woody Ornamental Plant Information Course WINTER 2017 REGISTRATION INFORMATION ON THE SECOND PAGE Winter is the most opportune time to truly see the fundamental beauty and traits that make each tree and shrub unique. They are not hidden by leaves and flowers. Horticulturalist, Arborist or any others with a desire to understand trees and shrubs around St. Louis are welcome to join us for in-field ‘walkabouts’. Does anyone know the tree in the photo? Course is composed of 2 meetings. You can do one or both. Classes meet Saturdays AT 1pm February 4 & 11 2017. We will walk for AT LEAST 2 HOURS. If people are interested, not cold and my voice is holding we can go longer. We may add a 3rd weekend if people are interested. Information covered: Scientific and common names, plant traits (flowering, size, cultivars, growing environment, etc), plant anatomy, design possibilities, potential and existing problems (pest, diseases, abiotic), plant maintenance, ecology and any other relevant or irrelevant information that comes to mind such as history of a plant. We even cover animals/birds that we encounter on the walkabouts. Certified Arborist receives 4 CEU’s for the course. (2 CEU’s per meeting)-At the time of emailing this I haven’t gotten official verification yet. The request is into the Arborist Society. To date they’ve never said no. Cost of the 2 session course is $30.00 per person. If you opt for one session it is $20 Course presented by Dan Billman, Past Associate Professor of Horticulture – St. Louis Community College-Meramec for 19 years. Presently with the great crew at Kirkwood Gardens. It is a personal refresher course to green industry people and anyone who loves/desires to learn about plants. Second week may meet at a Natural area (conservation area most likely). The second week may change to Tower Grove park or another location. This is the third year I’m doing WINTER walkabouts, last year we had a good turn out, even on the colder day. I had hand warmers for everyone!!
