Triferic® Instructions for Use – 272 mg Fe Powder Packet:
1. Tear along the top of the Triferic 272 mg Fe Powder Packet to open. Invert and empty
the entire contents of the Packet into the bicarbonate concentrate solution.
2. Ensure the Packet is empty. If needed, invert and tap the Packet until empty.
3. Add one (1) Packet to each 25 gallons of bicarbonate concentrate (e.g. 4 Packets added
to 100 gallons). Packets can be added before, during or after the bicarbonate powder
has been added to the mixer, preferably while mixing or dissolution is occurring.
4. Once the final Packet is added to the bicarbonate solution, resume current site protocol
for mixing and delivering bicarbonate solution to dialysis machines.
Note:
•
Record the number of Triferic Packets used, corresponding Packet lot number, day and
time and verify; keep information in log for documentation.
•
There is no special testing needed of the bicarbonate solution after Triferic is
added. Final iron concentration in the dialysate is 110 µg/L (2 µM).
•
Triferic Packets should be stored at room temperature in their packaging.
•
No additional cleaning or sanitation of dialysis equipment or central loop system is
required.
