Job Description JOB TITLE: ESL Intern Department/Program: English as a Second Language Program Reports to (name, title): Rachel Zupan, ESL Teacher Type of position Full-time Part-time Temporary Hours per week 40 hours 30 hours 20 hours FLSA status Exempt Non-exempt N/A Volunteer/Intern Contractor Other: 10 hrs. minimum GENERAL FUNCTION To gain relevant experience in teaching ESL, specifically to refugees. To assist in lesson planning and actual teaching of conversational ESL and the structure of the English language. To work with students ranging in pre-literate to advanced levels of English. RESPONSIBILITIES Create and execute activities for conversation groups Plan lessons for ESL classes Respond to questions students may have regarding material in an appropriate manner Recruit new students for new classes Plan around the different levels of students in order to more effectively meet the needs of every students in a class QUALIFICATIONS Education Undergraduate Student pursuing a degree with an International or Educational focus Junior or Senior Standing Skills Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Social Perceptiveness — Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Coordination — Adjust actions in relation to others' actions. Complex Problem Solving — Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
