 Around thirty percent of First Nations’ students who live on reserve
will graduate high school.
 Unemployment rates for First Nations’ workers are 2 times what they
are for a non-aboriginal worker in Canada.
 Close to eighteen percent of First Nations households do not have
phone service at home (for the rest of Canada, it is around three
percent.)
 Some First Nation homes (3.5%) do not have running water.
 Almost twenty percent of First Nation people do not have a doctor or
nurse in their community.
Right to Play’s Involvement:
In June, 2010, Right To Play started their Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal
Youth (PLAY) program. It is a program that focuses on life skills through
sport and play. The activities in the program teach children and youth
leadership skills, the importance of volunteering and how to build
relationships with other people in their community. Right To Play has
trained leaders from the Moose Cree First Nation to run this program and
has chosen coaches from the area to lead the activities.

Right to Play’s Involvement in Canada:
Right To Play is an organization that started during the 1994 Olympic
games in Lillehammer. At first, this organization, that has its home office
in Canada, was focused on fundraising. Right To Play continues to
fundraise for different projects both internationally and in Canada. It also
creates and runs programs for children and youth who are learning life
skills through sport and play.
