CO2 High voltage circuit breakers
Enhancing eco-efficiency with LTA
LTB-LTA 72 D1 and DCB-LTA 72 D1
The LTA platform features the first high
voltage circuit breaker to use carbon
dioxide (CO2) as the insulating and
arc extinguishing medium. The DCBLTA is designed to help reduce CO2
equivalent emissions by 60% over the
life cycle of the products as compared to
conventional circuit breakers.
New scalable technology platform
The LTA circuit breaker platform requires extremely low
operating energy and therefore lower operating forces within
the breaker. It has been developed using the same technology
and similar components as in ABB’s widely used SF6 LTB
product range, including the high conductivity, low resistiveloss copper current paths.
No gas handling
When replacing the SF6 gas with CO2, regulatory issues
related by SF6 are avoided. The installation time is shorter
and tedious gas handling, associated costs and management
procedures are eliminated.
The LTA 72D1 uses the same type of mechanical spring drives
as ABB’s SF6 LTB product series. These IEC Class M2 drives are
designed for 10,000 operations and share components with the
mechanical spring drives on ABB‘s extensive worldwide installed
base of high-voltage circuit breakers.
Also available as disconnecting circuit breaker
LTA circuit breakers are also avaliable as a disconnecting
circuit-breakers (DCB) that integrate the disconnecting function with the switching function on the LTA platform.
Disconnecting circuit breakers enable smarter, safer and
greener substations due to the elimination of conventional
disconnectors. Substations equipped with disconnecting circuit breakers have higher availability in supplying power, they
require less maintenance and space, and CO2 emissions are
greatly reduced in comparison to conventional substations.
With the web tool www.dcbsubstations.com you can clearly
see space and cost savings comparing a DCB substation with
traditional designs.
