Honors Biology Summer Assignment 2017

Honors Biology Summer Assignment
2017-2018 School Year
Ursuline High School
Miss Raab
Part 1: You will find, read, and summarize 6 articles over the summer. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR
ADHERING TO THE ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES LISTED BELOW. Any article that does not adhere to the
guidelines will not be accepted and no credit will be given for that article summary. There is a list of topics below.
You can pick any six of the topics/categories but you may only use a category once. Attached to this assignment
is a template of the format you must use to complete your summary. Only articles at least 700 words in length
are acceptable. If you use an article shorter than 700 words, it will not count as one of the six required
summaries. A print out or copy of the original article must be attached to the summary when it is
submitted in class. You will submit this assignment on the first day of full classes (you don’t need to bring it to
Freshmen Orientation).
Each article must have/be:
A) at least 700 words (see above)
B) an author listed. If there is no author listed, select a different article.
C) the website’s address if found online
D) the date listed. Only articles published in May through August of 2017 are acceptable.
If it is a newspaper or magazine article, be sure the date is provided so its publication
date can be verified.
E) obviously related to the topic selected. If the PRIMARY PURPOSE AND SUBJECT
of the article does not obviously relate to the topic you selected, than use a different
article. If it does not relate well to the topic selected, credit will not be given.
Each summary must have/be:
A) complete sentences for the thesis, evidence, and significance portions of the assignment (see
template)
B) Neat! The assignment must be typed (it will be a requirement for many of your
assignments throughout the year). You must follow the order and guidelines of the template.
C) ALL parts of the template completed
D) A full copy of the article attached. No credit will be given for a summary if the article used is
not also submitted.

same topic):
