ETAG (Education Technology Action Group) – Reflections 2014
Early 2014, a Ministerial team
from DfE and BIS asked ETAG:
“How digital technology might
empower teachers and learners
by enabling innovation using
smart technologies around us
….and how that empowering
could deepen and accelerate
learning”
ETAG Key reflections
• What is Learning technology? – it is the broad range of
communication, information and related technologies that
can be used to support learning, teaching, and assessment
– eg…….
• Rightly or wrongly individuals and institutions seem to
be saying “it is safer to try nothing than to try and fail”
The Government response – June 2014
Investment:
• JISC allocated £5m to
upgrade their broadband
network
• Providers to demonstrate
consideration of online and
blended delivery before new
buildings are considered
The Government response – June 2014
• Ofsted to provide greater
guidance and training in the
area of learning technology for
its inspectors
FE Sussex – TILIS Project
(Teaching and Learning in Sussex)
Workshops for Governors, Leaders and Managers on strategic
planning
• strategic planning calculator for implementation of learning technology
• adaptation of Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) to include aspects of
learning technology
Virtual and face-face CPD for teaching practitioners
• a “getting started toolkit”
