One way real-time collaboration can help you be more responsive is
to ensure that you will always be available to your customers
Prudential Financial has embedded instant messaging in their web site so customers can chat in real-time with their assigned
analyst. If the assigned analyst was not available, the system would route to next available, ensuring the customer was
always presented with real-time access to an analyst – providing excellent customer support and providing added
value/differentiator for Prudential.
Avnet Computer Marketing is a distributor of enterprise systems, software, networking and storage products.
Avnet has integrated instant messaging into its CRM system. When a new customer is added to its CRM database, a
buddy list of the customer’s sales team and contact details are dynamically generated for each of the buddy list
members, enhancing the customer’s experience through real-time contact with the sales team. Avnet’s sales team also
uses application sharing to remotely train customers, and can do so by easily selecting a customer’s name from the
buddy list.
Avnet also hosts instant messaging for its customers, helping improve customer satisfaction. Another benefit - Avnet’s
communication culture has changed to the point where today, before placing telephone calls, associates use presence
awareness to check the availability of the people they want to call, which helps reduce wasted time and cuts the cost
of unnecessary calls.
IBM is a very big user of real-time technology, of course. In case you weren’t aware of it, IBM has integrated instant
messaging into our public website. You may have noticed on the title slide, and you’ll also see it in my e-mail signature, a
URL that you can use to begin chatting with me or any of the other 300k+ IBMers using Sametime. (Contact me by IM:
https://www.ibm.com/collaboration/collaboratenow). We also regularly use web conferencing to share presentations or do
live demos with customers, partners, and of course internally.
