What is a SUD Strategy?
• Part of LCR ERDF allocation
• Government asked Core City Regions to develop SUD Strategies in
2015
• SUD strategies set out integrated actions to tackle challenges
affecting urban areas
• The Combined Authority will have a greater say in project selection
as an Intermediary Body
• The local ESIF Partnership Committee will continue to provide
advice on local strategic fit to the Combined Authority and DCLG
• DCLG appraises and issues contracts to successful projects as
before

• Programme value: ca £20m (£10m ERDF & £10m Match)
• Focused on delivering projects related to transport/sustainable
urban mobility and green infrastructure
• Covers 2 ERDF Priority Axes
– PA4 Low Carbon Economy: Promotion of Sustainable Urban Mobility
– PA6 Environment and Resource Efficiency: Green Infrastructure
• SUD covers the entire Liverpool City Region
• ERDF Intervention rate 50%
• Will not invest in major transport infrastructure schemes
Three Strands of Activity

Strand 1: ERDF budget - £6.619m
– Creating and enhancing connectivity through the development of
green corridors to promote walking and cycling into and between
economic growth priorities, including biodiversity benefits;
Strand 2: ERDF budget - £780k
– Complementary measures that promote and incentivise
sustainable, active and low carbon travel via smart
technologies; i.e. intelligent travel tools such as phone apps, smart
ticketing, and the use of ‘big data’
Strand 3: ERDF budget - £2.34m
– Development of alternative fuels to reduce carbon emissions from
public sector transport services
