MINUTES OF SPORTS COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY 17TH OCTOBER 2013 IN COMMITTEE ROOM AT COUNCIL COMMENCING AT 7.30 P.M. Present:- Natasha Hain (Council), Val Scott (Councilor), Luke Knight (Singleton Cricket), Mark Rix (Howe Park Tennis), John Watson (Singleton Track & Field), Mark Henderson (Singleton Soccer Club), Marilyn Rix (Netball), Greg Horadam (Pres/Cit Rep) Apologies:- Nil Minutes :- Minutes of meeting held on 19th September 2013 were read and confirmed. Mark Henderson/Luke Knight Business Arising From Minutes:- Mark Henderson advised that water account for Singleton Senior Soccer is going to a council meeting. Correspondence:- None available Financial Report:- None Available Secretary’s Report:- None Available Natahsa’s Report (Parks and Facilities Technician):- Alroy Oval:- In relation to Junior Soccer and Singleton Track and Field. A letter was sent to Michael Dean in August 2012 in relation to keys to the building. Soccer have installed their own locks and council do not have keys. Due to this, council do not have access to the building and their fire people cannot access building to test fire equipment. Michael Dean needs to hand keys into Council and get Council keys. Michael Dean is refusing to hand keys in. The roof is to be assessed and will probably be replaced with tin and the cladding will be repaired. John Watson (Singleton Track & Field) advised that they have received money to do the work that was outlined in Natasha’s report eg: fix roof and cladding at Alroy. John felt that the money should be given back if Council is going to do the repairs. John asked Natasha to ask Richard if Alroy will be repaired so we can work out what to do with the funds. Natalie King is a temporary Grants Officer. Mark Rix feels that Singleton sports Council needs to do more. Val Scott felt that the Sports Council Minutes should go to Council as Business Papers. It was felt that the sports Council President should meet with the Council General Manager or Gary Thomson. Richard contacted Luke Knight of Junior Cricket. Spraying and fertilizing of the sports fields has been completed. Second treatment to be done on onion weed. General Business:Junior Cricket:- Luke asked if Council has their buildings sprayed for pests. He sprayed about 4 months ago yet they are still having major problems with ants. Had a conversation with Richard. Richard not happy with the discussion that took place at Sports Council Meeting in September. No confirmation has been received from AFL. AFL have moved 95% of their stuff. Cricket is very frustrated. Luke advised he is looking at walking away and giving up. Luke told Richard enough is enough. Feel the building should be shared 6 and 6. Richard feels Sports Council should be saying to Council what we want. Asked if Richard knew of any grants to replace synthetic wickets as they are unsafe. Natasha advised that Simon Morris is looking into the matter. Luke has researched a supplier and would like them to be given the chance to quote on 2 wickets (Cook and Civic) and has 3 samples. Simon agrees that Civic needs to be replaced. Cricket would like to see synthetic be put on the Albion Park pitch. Val Scott:- Asked Senior Soccer why the matter in relation to the water account is going to Council. Senior soccer did not know why. Senior Soccer:- Starts trials on the 3rd November under new coach. Need a ground to train on. Spoke to John Watson of Singleton Track and Field. Going to use Alroy Oval as they can’t use Howe Park. Have 5 players from outside the Singleton area. Still chasing players. Holding the AGM in November. New gates are in but there is wooden posts at the sides of the gates and the wooden posts are not concreted in. Soccer offered to pay for gates 3 years ago. Using students to do some concrete work in November. Doing a slab in front of the canteen. Tutt Bryant is going to provide the gear. Singleton Track and Field:- Are busy planning Zone Carnival. Will be held on the 16/17th November. Liaising with Soccer for the use of Alroy. Soccer posts are still up and need these to be removed. For Zone Carnival gear is being borrowed from other clubs. For the Zone Carnival we are having security over the Friday and Saturday night as tents will be left up. Using Lions Club for hot food. Will need to get Porta-loos in due to our lack of toilet facilities. Will have about 240 athletes attend. Spoke to Richard in relation to the slasher cutting some of the soft fall material. Howe Park Tennis:- Every thing is going well. Our DA is still not approved and has been in Council for 14 weeks. Our tennis coach worked in China for 5 years and is looking at brining out Chinese children for a 4 week period and doing a reciprocal visit. Netball:- Currently running a Fit 5 session. It is umpire your own and no scores are being kept. Greg :- visited mines and businesses in relation to Movies Under the Stars. Businesses and Mines are happy just need to be emailed with all the details. The person he needs to see at RMS in relation to the seating at the old Rix’s Creek rest area was not available but a person he spoke to felt that there would be an issue with Public Liability. Sports Star Awards Night:- need to get this organised. Need to decide if this is going to run and book a venue. The date for 2014 is the 21st March. Mark Rix will book venue. York Street Diggers. Greg is going to catch up with Jenny in relation to going through the Argus for selections. Sports Star Committee to meet on the 7th November at 7pm in the Library.
