Date: 19 June 2014 Grant Thornton’s corporate finance team takes to the skies in aid of cancer support charities Five high fliers from Grant Thornton have taken a charity leap with a 14,000ft sponsored skydive to raise funds for St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds and for Breast Cancer Care. The team comprising Phil Whaley, Edwin Chia, Ali Sharifi, Andy Sugden and Anthony Yu from Grant Thornton’s Northern corporate finance advisory practice took the jump last Saturday (14 June) at Skydive Northwest and have so far raised £1,400 for the charities with Grant Thornton pledging a further £1,000. They were inspired to take the challenge after learning that Anthony was an experienced skydiver who does this for kicks on his weekends and on holiday! Phil Whaley, who leads Grant Thornton’s corporate finance advisory practice in Leeds, said: “I was really touched when my colleagues asked if they could do this in memory of my wife who died in September, and to raise funds for charities that supported us both through her illness. I chose a fantastic local charity, St Gemma’s Hospice which looked after Michelle, and also a national charity, Breast Cancer Care, which supported her on her two year journey with breast cancer. Thanks to everyone who’s sponsored us and it’s not too late to make a donation.” To support the Grant Thornton team, visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/GTskydive Appeal PR Ltd Tel: 01423 569 999 www.appealpr.com -EndsPicture shows: Phil Whaley and instructor Jason For further press information, please contact: Susan Reid on (01423)56 99 99 or [email protected] Appeal PR Ltd Tel: 01423 569 999 www.appealpr.com
