WHAT IS IT? WILL IT HELP IN SCHOOL? HOW DOES IT WORK? Social Cognitive Therapy (SCT) explicitly teaches people who have not naturally acquired social skills to understand how and why the social world works. Yes! Many of our students are extremely intelligent, but their social deficits can lead to academic problems. Lessons closely related to school work include: It uses various methods and materials, in particular Social Thinking® as developed by M.G. Winner. Our goal is to build a strong social foundation so that the student can both give and receive social cues appropriately. • • • • • • SCT is effective from pre-school ages to adulthood. We use fun lessons, activities, games, and role playing with specific vocabulary to break down and directly teach what most people do intuitively in all social settings.
