Non Revenue Water Reduc/on Program Iringa Urban Water Supply and Sanita/on Authority (IRUWASA), Tanzania Background and Objec/ves Background Objec&ves 1.  IRUWASA prepared a Non Revenue Water reduc/on project proposal and submit it to the Ministry of Water for funding and support. 2.  IRUWASA in collabora/on with Ministry of Water (MoW), and the Development Partners, KfW come up with clear strategies to reduce the NRW origina/ng from the real loss and apparent loss. 3.  Budget for the reduc/on the Non-­‐Revenue Water was set aside. 4.  Training of the staffs on good management, maintenance procedures and tools of NRW reduc/on. This increased staff awareness and crea/vity on methods of repairing leakages 5.  Implementa/on of NRW Reduc/on program according to the developed strategies. ATer the comple/on of the Iringa Urban Water Supply Project in 2011, there was high Non-­‐
Revenue Water (NRW) reaching at 60%. The network coverage was 68% with the average service delivery of 18 hours per day. This led to the w
ater ra/oning in Iringa Municipality. Project Descrip/on 1.  Training staffs on the good management skill and NRW reduc/on procedure. 2.  Conduc/ng the midnight flow to assess the minimum night flow in which the average midnight flow was 100m3/h but aTer the implementa/on has reduced to 35m3/h. 3.  Inves/ga/on of the meter correctness as well as the customer consump/on if it real correlates with the consump/on. 4.  Assessing the Meter Readers 5.  Establishment of zones 6.  Establishing of clear procedures of the new connec/on, the authority is responsible in purchasing all the material required, surveying the area. 7.  Sensi/za/on of the community involvement on safeguarding the water lines and other authority’s proper/es. Contacts are distributed in every billing sheet which makes 95% of the municipality access to the communica/on with the authority. Results and Lessons Learned WAVE Impact Results Lessons Learned ¥

Partners and Financing Ministry of Water, German Development Bank (KfW) Sustainability ¥  In order to make the NRW reduc/on program con/nuous, IRUWASA has made a sec/on to deal only with the NRW reduc/on program. The sec/on is responsible for the reduc/on of the Physical water loss and Commercial water together with advising the management on the short and long term measures for the Non-­‐Revenue Water Reduc/on Program. ¥  Iringa Urban Water Supply and Sanita/on Authority is puing more efforts to reduce the NRW further.
