After completing the 1,000 plus miles and visiting so many wonderful ENT Units together we have raised over £6,500. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their kind support, donations and making this dream possible. The training that Sarah and Emmanuel will receive will make a huge difference and improve ENT services in Malawi, this ground breaking approach is down to the efforts of the ENT Team at Fife. Tricia Mackie, Lead Nurse at Fife had this to say. One Journey Ends As Another Begins... “The programme we hope to set up from the ENT team in Fife will be focused on education. Our proposal will be similar to one (already very successfully in practise) that has been set up by FK Norway, an organisation afliated to Oslo University Hospital, and the neurosurgery unit in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre. We propose two programmes one for the long term and one in the short term, in the long term we propose a 6 pronged project. 1. Exchange of the medical registrars 2. Exchange of the nurses and nursing auxiliaries 3. Facilitating the clinical ofcers to come to Fife to observe our practise (to include the anaesthetic clerical ofcers). 4. Sponsorship for the training of nurses and clinical ofcers 5. Project manager 6. Audiology In the short term we are looking to bring a Matron (and possibly a clinical ofcer ) over for a month in order to showcase our facilities and establish appropriate training for the nursing team and the clinical ofcers. Our experience from the visit is the lack of understanding and organisation at the most basic level, which we can facilitate and I really do think we can create a true partnership that will continue for years to come and will be benecial for both parties. The hard work starts now creating a funded programme that will be the foundation of the ENT Blantrye and ENT Fife teams.” Follow us @ent_africa Tel: +44 (0)114 261 7161 www.sheffmed.com LEJOG 2016 Lands End to John o’Groats 2016
