Changing your UvA-net ID password – UvA workstation

Changing your UvA-net ID password – UvA workstation
Choose a quiet moment and read the instructions thoroughly. It is important that you follow
the right steps in order to change your password in the simplest possible way. This may take 15
to 30 minutes, depending on the circumstances. To avoid having any problems with
smartphones and tablets which gather data from UvA servers, ensure you have all such devices
to hand.
These instructions are intended for UvA workstations (standard and special). Other instructions
apply to self-support and personal computers. To see these, go to the instructions for Self-support /
personal computers in the left-hand column.
Step 1: Put all your smartphones and tablets in airplane mode
PLEASE NOTE: complete this step if you access UvA web services such as UvA-mail, UvA-agenda,
Eduroam and so on on your smartphone, tablet etc.
Android
• Briefly press the on/off button and choose Airplane Mode.
• Switch on Airplane Mode.
iPhone/iPad
• Settings > Airplane Mode > On.
Step 2: Disconnect from UvAVPN
PLEASE NOTE: complete this step if you are connected to the UvA network through UvAVPN
(because you are not at a UvA site). Otherwise skip this step.
• On the right of the bar at the bottom of the screen, click on the Junos Pulse/UvAVPN icon
and disconnect. If the icon is not visible, click on Show hidden icons.
Step 3: Change password
• Close all your programmes except for your internet browser, so you can still read the
instructions.
• In a new browser window, go to id.uva.nl.
• Log in with your current password.
• If you are asked to set up the security questions, do so first.
• Click on Profile in the left-hand column.

PLEASE NOTE: do not use wifiportal.hva.nl.
• Enter your UvA-net [email protected] (PLEASE NOTE: this is not your email address) and enter the
new password.

Step 5: Change password for other programmes
If you use any other programmes which use your UvA-net ID to retrieve data (such as files on
network drives), you also need to change your password in those programmes.
Sometimes a programme may appear to work and no password request is made. You must still
change the password, because otherwise the account will be blocked at a later date.
You should also change passwords in programmes which save those passwords for you (what are
known as passwords managers). Some well-known programmes used for this are iCloud, aWallet
and Datavault.
