Docking/Charging Station
Demonstrates and discusses what to do with the glucose meter when not in use.

Cleaning the Meter – CAP Element #4
Demonstrates how to clean the meter.

Clean the meter with a cloth that has been dampened with 10% bleach solution or disinfectant wipe.
7.
Immediately follow with a water-dampened cloth to remove all cleansing residue.
8.
Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth or lint-free tissue.
Quality Control Test on the Nova Stat Glucose Meter – CAP Element #5
Demonstrates doing a quality control test on the meter.

From welcome screen, press login.
10. Enter or scan Operator ID and press Accept.
11. From Patient test screen, press QC
12. Enter strip lot no and press Accept.
13. Enter QC lot no and press Accept.
14. Insert test strip into meter.
15. While holding meter horizontally or downward, touch QC control drop to end of strip
16. Result will appear within 6 seconds.
17. To accept result press accept.

21. What are the steps of reporting critical patient values?**
If the result value is outside the critical limits established (50-500 mg/dL) by the hospital, the following steps should be taken.
Values below 70 mg/dL, the Hypoglycemia Policy and Procedure in the JHSMH Patient Care folder should be followed.
Values above 500 mg/dL.
1. Repeat the patient test. If the new test value matches the original value plus or minus 15%, the result is
declared valid.
2. If the repeated test is not within plus or minus 15%, a specimen should be drawn immediately and sent to
the laboratory for comparison. These two tests must be done relatively at the same time.
3. Notify the physician per individual physician protocol.
