group number 1 - The Forests Dialogue

LUD Tanzania
June 12-14, 2017
BREAKOUT GROUP QUESTIONS:
Are there any gaps in the 2016 priority actions?
What are the new priority actions moving forward?
Who do you know of that is already working on these actions?
GROUP NUMBER ONE
1.PARTICIPATION AND COORDINATION
• MAPPING-Who is doing what & where?
• LEADERSHIP-Who coordinates?
• JOINT EFFORT-Inclusive.
WHO:
• NLUPC
• LGAs
• CSOs & NGOs-eg. LTA, CARE, SECO, PELUM, PFP
• PRIVATE SECTOR-eg. UNILIVER, MTC, RFA
NEEDED:
• MOBILIZATION OF RESOURCES-Should be a joint
collaborative effort; suggest based on a coordination
platform such as GRG
2. RESOURCES EFFICIENCY
• EDUCATION/AWARNESS
• LONG TERM BENEFITS FOR THE COMMUNITIES
• CONTINOUS FOLLOW UP (M&E) & TRAINING

ACTORS
INCLUSIVE RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
• CSOs ---- CARE International, PFP (have funds for environmental conservation), WWF
• DFID, Finland Embassy through FINDA, SIDA, FAO, UNDP
• Private sectors in respective areas – wood foundation, UNILEVER, NOSIC, Avocado
association through TAHA, New forest, Green resource, Mtanga, Silverlands
• SAGCOT Catalyst fund – but it’s a matching grant to support value chain for small
holder farmers – its not there already as it purposed for another objective – not LUPs
How do we reach them? We must have a program that needs support –
develop or come up with a proposal – integrative project. SAGCOT brings
together actors of the SAGCOT area – for this case Ihemi cluster
In 2016, Mkonge have developed a project proposal to the WB but were
told such proposal is very wide and should be submitted by the Govt
Short term plans
• 60m issue – community awareness – Government to collaborate with CSOs
for achieving this target-protection of water sources/catchment areas
• Unoccupied land – villagers be given seeds to plant trees or environmental
friendly plants/trees
• Platform for all actors – all actors should meet and discuss the needs
for achieving LUP/landscape management in Ihemi cluster. Who has
what and what are they doing? How can they contribute to achieving
the targets and how can they develop a short and long term plan for
achieving the goal/objectives/targets/interventions on landscape
management
ASANTENI SANA!
