Can you believe the Holidays are just around the corner? It seems like just yesterday that we were putting up the
luminarias at the park. Now that time is here again; be sure to get your order in early to light up a luminaria in honor of a
family member or friend or in memory of a loved one. For more details, see the article titled Luminarias 2004.
Since our last newsletter the association board has been very busy. Some of the projects were:
Our Vice-President attended a seminar sponsored in part by City of Albuquerque regarding the future growth and
development of Albuquerque. She will provide a more detailed report.
A few board members (myself included) attended an Educational Forum and learned some facts about our local school
system. We also provided some talking points for the education committee of The Albuquerque Partnership to present
during the legislative session in January/February 2005
I personally attended a couple of meetings with our local law enforcement and learned how to identify a “Meth house”,
and where to report your suspicions. All our residents should definitely have access to this information, and the board
will select a date for this presentation. As you can see being on the board keeps you real busy, however the time is well
spent because we become aware of many issues that affect our residential area.
I have had some neighbors call for information on graffiti removal. The best way to remove unsightly graffiti is to call the
graffiti hotline, that number is 768-4725. Remember, you do not have to be a homeowner in this area to report graffiti,
anyone can call, including youth. So if you see graffiti anywhere in our residential area, please call, don’t wait on
someone else to do it. This is our neighborhood, let’s help each other.
We had a low turnout at our general meeting on September 27. The association attempted to inform the residents of a
proposal to develop an area that is adjacent to our southern boundary using West Glen and West Lea Drives. The
developer that wants to build on this land was one of our guest speakers. He explained two options to those present,
and requested input from our members. The people that will be most affected by this development will be the residents
on these two streets, because of the increased traffic. As you can see, our meetings can be very informative; we just
need more residents to attend.
The speed humps that we have been waiting for should be installed soon. If you received a card in the mail from the City
you should be getting them on your street. Some streets are getting up to five, and some aren’t getting any. I have
talked to traffic engineering and was told that they couldn’t change the locations of the speed humps. However, we are
communicating with our City Council Representative, Miguel Gomez, to confirm placement.
Our goal is to persuade more residents to join the association. If you like all the things that we are doing come join us.
You do not have to attend our monthly meetings unless you want to. The dues are only $12.00 per year - that’s only a
dollar a month! I think we can all afford this amount, but more importantly, you will be helping your fellow neighbors to be
informed.

Pueden creer que las Vacaciones son apenas a la vuelta. Parece apenas ayer que poníamos las luminarias en el parque.
Ahora el tiempo está aquí otra vez. Estén seguros de poner su orden lo más temprano posible para iluminar una luminaria
en honor o en memoria de un miembro de su familia o una amistad. Para más detalles, vea el artículo titulado Luminarias
2004. Desde nuestro último boletín la mesa directiva de la asociación ha estado muy ocupada. Algunos de los proyectos
eran:Nuestra Vicepresidenta asistió un seminario patrocinado en la parte por la Ciudad de Alburquerque con respecto al
crecimiento y el desarrollo futuro de Alburquerque. Ella proporcionará un informe más detallado.
Unos miembros de la mesa directiva (yo mismo incluí) asistió un Foro Educativo y aprendimos algunos hechos acerca de
nuestro sistema escolar local. Proporcionamos también algunos puntos parlantes para el comité de la educación de La
Asociación de Alburquerque para presentar durante la sesión legislativa en enero y febrero 2005.
Asistí personalmente un par de reuniones con nuestra aplicación local de la ley y aprendí a cómo identificar “una casa de
Meth”, y donde informar sus sospechas. Todos nuestros residentes deben tener acceso definitivamente a esta información,
y la mesa directiva escogerá una fecha para esta presentación.

muchos asuntos que afectan nuestra área residencial.
He recibido llamadas de algunos vecinos pidiendo información tocante la eliminación de grafiti. La mejor manera de quitar
grafiti feo es llamar a la línea directa de grafiti al teléfono 768-4725. Recuerde, usted no tiene que ser un propietario en
nuestra área para reportar grafiti, cualquier persona puede llamar, inclusive la juventud. Si usted ve grafiti dondequiera en
nuestra área residencial, por favor llame usted, no espere que otra persona lo haga. Esto es nuestro vecindario, ayudemos
uno al otro.
Tuvimos una concurrencia baja en nuestra reunión general el 27 de septiembre. La asociación procuró informar los
residentes de una propuesta para desarrollar un área que está adyacente a nuestra frontera meridional que utiliza las
calles West Glen y West Lea. El revelador que quiere construir en esta tierra era uno de nuestros oradores de huésped. El
explicó dos opciones a ésos presentan, y solicito opiniones de nuestros miembros. Las personas que serán mas afectadas
por este desarrollo serán los residentes en estas dos calles, a causa del tráfico aumentado. Como usted puede ver,
nuestras reuniones pueden ser muy informativas; simplemente necesitamos que más residentes asistan.
Las jorobas de la velocidad que hemos estado esperando se deben instalar pronto. Si usted recibió una tarjeta en el correo
de la Ciudad, usted debe obtenerlos en su calle. Algunas calles se levantan a cinco, y algunas othras no tendran jorobas.
He hablado para negociar la ingeniería y se dijo que ellos no pueden cambiar las ubicaciones de las jorobas de la
velocidad. Sin embargo, nosotros comunicamos con nuestro Representante de Consejal, Miguel Gomez, para confirmar la

Hi everyone, I trust that you are all doing well. As
Marcella mentioned in her report, I represented our
neighborhood association at a seminar regarding the
future growth of Albuquerque. Basically, the plan is to
attract more residents to the downtown and uptown
areas of the city by building up literally, instead of out.
It was an interesting experience listening to the
presentations, however, it is clear that this plan does
not apply to our residential area.
Hola todos, yo confío que ustedes están bien.
Como Marcella mencionó en su informe, yo
representé nuestra asociación del vecindario en un
seminario con respecto al crecimiento futuro de
Alburquerque. Básicamente, el plan es de atraer a
más residentes al centro y áreas exteriores de la
ciudad construyendo literalmente alto, en vez de
ancho. Fue una experiencia interesante
escuchando las presentaciones, sin embargo, es
claro que este plan no aplica a nuestra área
residencial.
En otra nota, aquí nosotros estamos en el medio de
la temporada de la Navidad. Oro que todos tuvieron
una celebración agradable con la familia y amigos
en el Día de Gracias. La navidad esta a la vuelta,
también es un tiempo de compartir con la familia y
amigos. Sin embargo, no se olvide los que no son
tan afortunados tener la bendición de la familia y
amigos cerca de ellos.
Yo les exijo que tome, sí aún hacer tiempo para
observar en nuestro propio vecindario y busque
quien podrá utilizar la familia y amigos en esta
época del año y extender la mano auxiliar. Invítelos
a la cena, para una copa de la sidra caliente, el
postre o apenas alguna conversación agradable. La
época de vacaciones es a veces un tiempo triste
para muchas personas. Como vecinos debemos
meternos con los acontecimientos que suceden en
nuestra propia comunidad, tal como estableciendo
luminarias en el parque. Salga y encuentre a su
vecino a través de la calle o en la próxima cuadra.
Asombra lo que una palabra amable, hablado con
el amor de DIOS, puede hacer la comodidad el
herido/dolor de alguien buscando el Amor de
Jesucristo.
Asistiendo a un acontecimiento tal como
mencionado encima puede ser un tiempo perfecto
en invitar al que usted encuentra a una actividad o
presentación de iglesia. Soy cierta que nuestras
iglesias locales tendrán presentaciones especiales
durante el mes de diciembre. Sé que la Iglesia del
Valle en 3713 Isleta Blvd., SW tendrá tal
presentación el 19 de diciembre, empezando a las
9 de la mañana, y se presentara la misma
presentación en Español a las 11:30 de la mañana.
Otra vez, exijo a todos vecinos de Jardines del
Valle, de alcanzar fuera esta temporada de la
Navidad y hacer un comienzo NUEVO para un AÑO
NUEVO. Venimos juntos a hacer nuestra vecindad
un lugar maravilloso para vivir. ¡Que tenga una
Navidad bendita y un próspero Año nuevo!
On another note, here we are in the midst of the
Christmas season. I pray everyone had a nice
Thanksgiving Day celebration with family and friends.
Christmas is just around the corner, which is also a
time to share with family and friends. However, let’s
not forget those who are not so fortunate to have the
blessing of family and friends near by.
I encourage you to take, yes even make time to look
in our own neighborhood and find out who could use
family and friends at this time of year and extend a
loving and helping hand. Invite them to dinner, for a
cup of hot cider, dessert or just some nice
conversation. The holiday season is sometimes a sad
time for a lot of people. As good neighbors we should
get involved with the events happening in our own
community, such as setting up luminarias in the park.
Come out and meet your neighbor across the street or
on the next block. It is amazing what a kind word,
spoken with the love of GOD, can do ease the
hurt/pain of someone seeking the Love of Jesus
Christ.
Attending an event such as the one mentioned above
can be a perfect time to invite someone you meet to a
church activity or presentation. I am certain that our
local churches will have special presentations through
out December. I know that Church of the Valley at
3713 Isleta Blvd., SW will be having such a
presentation on December 19, starting at 9 a.m. This
same presentation will be presented in Spanish at
11:30 a.m. Again, I encourage us, Valley Garden
neighbors, to reach out this Christmas season and
make a NEW start for a NEW YEAR. Let’s come
together to make our neighborhood a wonderful place
to live. Have a Blessed Christmas and a prosperous
New Year!

Treasurer’s Report

Dear fellow resident, in my report in the Spring newsletter, I issued a challenge to increase our active memberships from 38 to
50. Sadly we did not increase our active memberships. However, I am confident that if the inactive members who for some
reason or another forgot to renew, and would renew their respective memberships, the challenge would be met and maybe go
beyond 50. Would you do your part and pass the word to your neighbors. A good opportunity to renew will be during the
luminaria event on December 18.
On another topic, have you noticed that several homes are up for sale in our residential area? Since our goal is to make our
residential area a great place to live and encourage long term residency, another project that I have taken on is to send letters
to the respective real estate agents informing them about our active association, and requesting that they inform any
prospective buyers of our active status.

Estimado residente prójimo, en mi informe en el boletín de la Primavera, yo publiqué un desafío para aumentar nuestras
asociaciones activas de 38 a 50. Tristemente nosotros no aumentamos nuestras asociaciones activas. Sin embargo, yo estoy
segura que si los miembros inactivos que por alguna razón u otro han olvidado de renovar sus asociaciones respectivas, el
desafío se encontraría y quizá iría más 50. Haga su parte y pase la palabra a sus vecinos. Una oportunidad buena para
renovar asociación será durante el acontecimiento de luminaria el 18 de diciembre.
¿En otro tema, usted se ha dado cuenta de los varios hogares que están arriba en venta en nuestra área residencial? Desde
que nuestra meta deberá hacer nuestra área residencial que un gran lugar para vivir y animar más residencia, otro proyecto
que toma mandar cartas a los corredores de bienes raíces respectivos que los informan acerca de nuestra asociación activa, y
solicitan que ellos informan a cualquier comprador futuro de nuestra posición activa.
Luminarias 2004 by M. Y. Belden, 877-1185
The festival of lights is upon us again, and as it is our tradition, the board of directors has selected Saturday, December 18 to
put luminarias around the walkway of the park. As stated before, our goal is to light up the perimeter and as much of the
sidewalks as possible. We will sell the luminarias for 50 cents each, with no limit.
All money collected will benefit our
association and residential area. We will gather at the park at 2 p.m. to assemble and place the luminarias out to be lit by 5:00
p.m by the person or family purchasing the luminaria(s). We will, of course, create labels identifying the luminarias you
purchase. The label can state “In Honor Of and a name”, or “In Memory of and a name”. During this time, there will be
refreshments, singing, goodies for the kids present and neighborly conversations. So, join us in this event by representing your
street to promote community pride and helping to “light up the park”. Contact Marta Belden at 877-1185 to purchase
luminaria(s). Payment must be made by December 16 to ensure that labels are printed. We accept cash (for which we will
give you a receipt), and checks made payable to Valley Gardens Neighborhood Association. May the Light of this world, Jesus
Christ, be the light that illuminates your path.

La fiesta de luces está sobre nosotros otra vez, y como es nuestra tradición, la mesa directiva ha escogido el sábado, 18 de
diciembre en poner luminarias alrededor del sendero del parque. Como fue indicado antes, nuestra meta es iluminar el
perímetro y tanta de las aceras como posible. Reuniremos en el parque a las 2 de la tarde para colocar las luminarias para
prender las a las 5:00 de la tarde. Venderemos las luminarias por 50 centavos cada una, con ningún límite. Todo dinero

Dear neighbors, do you remember a few years back when we had bus service to our residential area? I do.
When Jim Baca was Mayor the decision was made to not provide service to our area. They justified this
decision by saying it was due to low ridership or in other words, not enough people used the bus to get
around town. I myself do not need the service because I’ve been fortunate that my old car still runs. On my
way to my work place, I have seen, (and continue to see) a lot of people walking the long trek down Gun
Club Road to get to Isleta Blvd to where the city bus makes stops. Also, it is getting cold now and many folks,
especially the elderly and very young should not be exposed to the harsh elements. I’m sure that there are a
lot of other people that would use this service if it became available again
Since we pay taxes just like the good folks in other areas of town like the NE Heights, Taylor Ranch and the
North Valley, I think we should we have transit (bus) service to our neighborhood too.
We need your input for our survey. How do you feel about this? Are you interested in using the bus? Or do

you know someone who is? What the city wants is to see the number of people who ride the bus (ridership) increase to
justify service to our area. Contact a board member if you are interested in having bus service reinstating to our area. We
are in touch with our City Council Representative Miguel Gómez, on a regular basis and we want to provide him with the
results of this survey.
Over the last few years we have seen many changes within our neighborhood, some good and some not so good. Yet
other changes may come around that could change our quality of life. I not speaking of just crime and drugs, I am including
zoning changes and development of land areas, which in turn brings more traffic and congestion in our neighborhood. Our
best weapon is being informed and how we, as an active association, can respond to such information. We all have a stake
in our residential area because we live here. Many of us feel as if our voices are not heard, maybe thinking “Why should I
waste my money and time with the neighborhood association when no one else wants to participate”. This may be true as a
single voice, but joining the voices of others active in the association, we could make, and have made a big difference. Will
you join us? It’s your decision!

¿Recuerda usted que hace unos pocos años tuvimos el servicio de autobuses aquí en nuestra área residencial?
Mientras que Jim Baca ara Alcalde, la ciudad decidió de eliminar el servicio a nuestra área. Ellos justificaron esta
decisión diciendo que bastante gente no usaba al servicio de autobús. Yo mismo no necesito el servicio por que todavía
tengo la suerte que mi auto viejo todavía corre. Mientras yo manejo mi auto en las mañanas, yo he visto muchas
personas que caminan la jornada ardua larga hacia Gun Club Road a Isleta Blvd donde el tránsito hace las paradas.
También, las mañanas están con mucho frió y muchas gente, especialmente las personas mayores de edad y jóvenes
chicos no deben ser expuesto a los elementos duros. Yo estoy seguro que hay otras personas que utilizarían este
servicio si llega a ser disponibles
Por cual nosotros pagamos impuestos. Igual como la gente en otras áreas de la ciudad, como NE Heights, Taylor Ranch
y North Valley, yo pienso que también debemos tener el servicio de tránsito a nuestro vecindario.
Necesitamos su entrada. ¿Cómo se siente usted acerca de esto? ¿Se interesa usted en usar el autobús, o sabe usted
alguien que se interesa? Llame a un miembro de la mesa directiva si usted es interesado a reintegrar este servicio a
nuestra área. Siempre estamos en comunicación regularmente con Miguel Gómez, nuestro Consejal con la ciudad, y

Sobre los últimos pocos años nosotros hemos visto muchos cambios dentro nuestro vecindario, algunos han sido buenos

No nomás hablo del crimen y las drogas pero declarando también los cambios de zona y la construcción en las área
vacías, que posiblemente atraen más tráfico, y la congestión en nuestro vecindario. Nuestra mejor arma es estar
informados y como nosotros (siendo una asociación activa) respondemos a la información. Todos tenemos una estaca
en nuestra área residencial por aquí vivimos. Muchos de nosotros tenemos el sentido que nuestras voces no se oiyen,
probablemente pensando. ¿“Por qué debo de malgastar mi dinero y el tiempo con la asociación del vecindario cuando
nadie más quiere participar” Esto puede ser verdad con una sola voz pero juntándonos con las voces de otros que son
activos en la asociación, podríamos hacer y hemos hecho una gran diferencia. ¿Se reúne con nosotros? ¡Es tu decisión!
