Nursery
Lesson Allocation:
Nursery has one timetabled lesson of gymnastics/movement per week. In the summer term
they play outdoor games that include short tennis, Kwik cricket and mini athletics.
Schemes of work used/ textbooks/resources:
A variety of skills, techniques and games are used to teach the skills needed for the physical
development of foundation stage.
The children learn and begin to understand that there are rules and directions in sport that
everyone must adhere to. To promote fair play, how to win, lose or draw.
Equal opportunities are promoted in all sports, providing the opportunity for all children to
participate regardless of gender, race or specialized needs.
Throughout the year we use a variety of equipment to supplement what is taught in our
lessons. Here is a list of what we use: gymnastics/movement equipment and use of the wall
bars. Tennis balls and rackets, large balls, cricket bats and balls, hoops, mini-hurdles and
foam javelins, Parachute and bean bags.

Allowing and promoting understanding for the faiths of individuals in sport. Make provision
for those that may be fasting whilst participating in sport.
Throughout the year we use a variety of equipment to supplement what is taught in our
lessons. Resources include: Gym equipment and use of the wall bars. Tennis balls, large
balls, basketballs, footballs, hockey sticks, hockey balls, rugby balls, cricket bats and balls,
tee-ball bats and balls, rounders bats, hoops, mini-hurdles and foam javelins.
Teaching methods:
Teachers will provide a flexible and safe environment to accommodate the different abilities
of the children. It is possible that there is a variety of abilities in every class, so different
learning activities will have to be undertaken to provide for these abilities. The teacher will
build on from the assessments that had been conducted in previous years. Teachers will
complete regular observations and an assessment grid at the completion of each term to
obtain an accurate level of the specific child’s ability.
