Market Mechanism
Promoting new market-based mechanisms
in Asian countries and contributing to global
efforts to combat climate change
The experience of CDM over the past decade has demonstrated the
effectiveness of market-based mechanisms in addressing climate change.
As a means of scaling up mitigation action, new approaches for
market-based mechanisms should be encouraged. There have been a few
examples of new market-based mechanisms, such as NAMA crediting,
bilateral crediting and sectoral crediting. It will also be a new experience for
most Asian countries to establish domestic market mechanisms like
emissions trading and VER (verified emission reduction) crediting schemes.
The IGES Market Mechanism Group will support the effective introduction
and implementation of various types of market-based mechanisms by
providing knowledge and expertise to governments, the private sector, and
non-governmental organisations.
