Brief Curriculum Vitae Gerry Swarbrick A passionate leader and pioneer developer of renewables for more than 20 years. Gerry has over 30 years of experience in the energy and power markets. Currently owner and managing director of energy consultancy, Ark Energy Ltd. Active in areas of renewable energy project and business development in a variety of technologies, including wind energy, solar energy, hydro, tidal and wave energy devices, biofuels and energy from waste. Focus and experience of financing, business planning & strategy, technical and commercial due diligence and support of investments by low carbon investment funds. Special skills – negotiator and deal maker. Born – Preston , England , November 1956 Gerry worked for 9 years for a major gas utility and then 8 years with a UK regional electricity company before founding his own renewable energy business in 1998. His expertise includes supply contracts, power project development, joint venturing, financing and corporate strategy. He has extensive experience of developing and implementing new renewable energy technologies. This experience has been gained in the UK, USA, Australia and several European countries. Gerry has strong interpersonal skills. He is an accomplished business developer and is trained in Executive and Business Coaching. Gerry sold his first renewable energy business, Ambient Energy Ltd, to Novera Energy in 2000 and established a second business, Ark Energy Ltd in 2002. He is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a founder director and former Chairman of the Renewable Energy Association. He lives in Bristol. A brief professional history is given on page 2 Page 2 Brief Professional History 1980 – 1989 British Gas – A wide variety of roles and increasing responsibilities in Marketing , Corporate Planning, New Business and Contract Sales. 1989 -‐ 1997 SWEB (South Western Electricity) – Roles in Power Purchasing, New Business Development & Power Generation. Following acquisition by Southern Company (USA) became MD in 1996 of power generation subsidiary , South Western Power. 1990 -‐ 1995 Director of three of the earliest UK renewable energy companies 1992 -‐ 1996 member of UK Government Wind Energy Advisory Committee Ambient Energy – Managing Director . 1998 -‐ 2000 own new renewable energy company then sold to business in 2000 to Novera Energy of Australia. Novera Energy Europe – Managing Director 2000-‐2002 established new office and team in UK and the lead successful acquisition of a UK operational renewable energy business – this lead to an office relocation. 2002 Novera Energy (Aus) – Commercial Director Joined parent company in 2001, HQ Sydney, to grow Australia renewables business. Novera successfully listed on Sydney stock exchange in Dec 2002 . 2003-‐ 2004 Ark Energy – Managing Director. advising and supporting a small number of clients in renewable energy market. Special assignments included ; acting Commercial Director of Compact Power (waste to energy); devising M&A strategy for a new biogas company; worked with major London bank on equity and debt funding for wind portfolio; acting CEO for a new tidal energy device seeking finance. 2005 – 06 Chairman – Renewable Energy Association. elected chairman of the main UK trade association. GJS one of REA founders. 2008 – 2009 Arup – (global engineering consultants) Director, Renewable Energy. 2009 to now Ark Energy – Managing Director. Consultancy focus on business opportunities from investors in low carbon technologies and from new Feed-‐In Tariffs in UK.
