Many players from both teams gathered in the area of the free kick. I was about 10 -12 yards away from the infringement when I whistled for the stoppage in play. The infringement occurred close to the sideline. I took control of the situation and ask the players to disperse so that we could resume play. From the sideline my Assistant referee (Barry Walker) was in close attendance to support my actions. As the players dispersed but before play resumed, I was notified by Assistant referee (Barry Walker) that Gloucester player, #40 (Brandon Guy) had directed a racial comment at Cataraqui player #3 Pho. The racial remark quoted to me by Assistant referee (Barry Walker) was, “You want a piece of me? What are you going to do about it, Hong Boy―? I considered the use of the term “Hong Boy― to be insulting and abusive as the Cataraqui player appeared to be of Asiatic origin. The assistant raised her flag at the moment where he was taking the shot. When #40 realized that he had been judged offside, he reacted with a public outburst where he looked right at me and yelled some comments that included “Can’t you see anything?― I cautioned him and verbally noted that his caution was for “dissent towards the decision of referees―. In the 76th minute, there was some jostling for the ball between #40 Gloucester and a Nepean defender near the sidelines about 15 yards from the goal line (Gloucester’s left wing). The Nepean defender stripped the ball from #40 Gloucester’s possession, the Gloucester player stumbled. I did not call a foul, and the Nepean player proceeded to run up the sidelines with the ball. The Gloucester player (#40) got up and chased the Nepean ball-carrier and did a “retaliatory― tackle that struck the ankle area of the Nepean player. I was within 10 yards of the incident and I stopped play immediately for that foul. I cautioned #40 Gloucester for “unsporting behaviour― and informed him that he is dismissed from the game for having received a second caution, and that he should proceed to his bench area and remove his jersey. When I displayed the red card, he had already had his back to me to start his 60-yard walk across the field to his bench area, and under the circumstances I thought it would be best not to ask him to turn and face me. I turned around and witnessed #10 from Kanata moving aggressively towards the parents of the Seaway Valley players, yelling at them while gesticulating, mostly towards the lady from Seaway Valley that was helping with the touchline since there were no assistant referees. While I did not hear everything, I did hear him telling them loudly to shut up in a rude manner. I pulled him away from that area and I dismissed him for insulting language and gestures. When I showed him the red card, he turned to the parents and said ´Fuck you´. After the game was over, the last few of the players from the Seaway Valley team were just past the baseball diamond (they were about 100 meters away from the field by that time), together with the coach and the lady mentioned above that was helping with judging the lines. #10 from Kanata was following them and I was a little further behind. #10 eventually cought up with them and started talking to them. He then started moving his arms around and looked like he pulled on the arm of the lady (although I am not entirely sure since I was still about 10-15 yards away and there were people in between). When the coach pulled him away and the other players got between him and the lady, #10 challenged them to a fight. When the Seaway valley players said it is 6 versus 1, he insisted that he could take them all. The Seaway valley coach then pointed me to him and that seemed to calm him down a little bit. #10 said that this has nothing to do with the game and we are no longer on the field. While he was talking to me, the Seaway Valley people moved away. I talked to him (#10) to let him know that he has to show more control of his emotions and that I have to report everything I see. The Seaway valley coach said there were death threats, and while I heard #10 trying to instigate a fight, I did not hear anything about death threats. As #17 of Gloucester attempted to clear the ball out of the 18 yard box, #4 of Russell pushed #17 of Gloucester in the shoulders with both hands. I blew the whistle to award Gloucester a free kick and to caution #4 of Russell for Unsporting Behaviour; however #17 of Gloucester (Melissa) pushed #4 of Russell (Shannyn) in the stomach with both hands after which Shannyn tackled Melissa to the ground by bear hugging her around the waist and dragging her to the ground. The 2 players continued to fight on the ground with Shannyn on top and of Melissa. Both girls pushed, punched, and pulled shirts for about 5 seconds at which time a Russell player pulled Shannyn off of Melissa and a Gloucester player put herself between Shannyn and Melissa. At this time, I dismissed Shannyn and then Melissa for Violent Conduct. I awarded a direct free kick to Gloucester where the first infraction occurred when I had whistled the play dead due to the event of #4 of Russell pushing #17 of Gloucester. Both teams played the remainder of the game with 10 players on the field. The atmosphere of the game started positively and calmly. About 20 minutes into the 1st half, the parents of Russell became very vocal and negative both towards me, my ARs, and their own team’s players. This notably bothered some Russell players as some began giving up on possession opportunities that they had previously challenging. Other Russell players showed their frustration by being more aggressive which was evident in the 32nd minute of the 1st half when #9 of Russell was cautioned for Unsporting Behaviour for pushing #9 of Gloucester in the shoulder with one hand. #9 of Gloucester retaliated with a one-handed push back, so she was cautioned as well for Unsporting Behaviour. The Russell parents continued to be quite vocal and negative in the 2nd half leading into the dismissals of Shannyn and Melissa. The Russell parents quieted down for a short period of time before getting completely out of control. With 10 minutes left in the game, the ball was out of play on the side-line of the spectator side. One man yelled out, “Hey ref, you’re a fucking joke. I hope you don’t get paid for this.― I stopped my watch and told the Russell coach to remove the man from the vicinity. The man walked to the parking lot and the rest of the game went fairly smoothly with little comment from the parents’ side. The incident involved # 20 George Georgantopoulos of Nepean City Storm (the offender) and # 22 Melissa Marleau of Seaway Valley. #20 (George) was fouled by Seaway Valley (#22 Melissa) and another Seaway Valley player. George went down as a result of a slide tackle from Melissa (tripping). I stopped play to award a free kick to Nepean City. I turned away to take my position and heard a commotion where the foul had occurred. As I turned back I saw George walking over to Melissa who was walking away. As he approached her she turned toward him and he held up his middle finger on each hand towards her. I immediately blew the whistle to get his attention (play was still stopped). At this time my AR (Rajan Walia) on that side of the field also had his flag up. I showed George a Red Card, and dismissed him. My intent was to dismiss him for an "offensive gesture". I later checked with Rajan to see if he wanted to add anything and found that he had seen the commotion that had happened as I had turned my head. His report to me is as follows: When the foul had been committed George had been tripped by Melissa´s slide tackle. Melissa was down on one knee. As she got up to walk away George intentionally kicked Melissa in the shin. This was not an accident and the ball was no where near where it could have been played (and the play was stopped at the time). What I described above (i.e. the obscene) gesture happened immediately after. The reason that Rajan has his flag up was to signal to me that he was requesting a Red Card be shown to George for the violent conduct. Referee: Barrie ELLIS Referee OSA #: 867200 Assist. Later in the 20th minute of the second half, one of the Cataraqui players committed a careless tackle on Jonathon Down. A stationary Nepean player was waiting approximately 30 yards from the Seaway goal line to control the ball as it was coming down to him. Seaway Valley player #9 jumped up into the air and with an outstretched hand deliberately handled the ball. As the Seaway player was coming back to the ground, his leading foot and studs came down on the Nepean player’s leg. If the Seaway player had not deliberately handled the ball, in my opinion, the Nepean player (the fact he would have been free to control the ball) would have had a goal-scoring opportunity, as several goals had been scored in this game already, from this distance. But it was the air-borne lunge for the ball, and the resulting studs to the leg which I was more concerned with and I decided to dismiss the Seaway player for “Serious Foul Play―.
