Zoo Summer School – Health and Safety

Drusillas Park
Zoo Summer School!
Our Zoo Summer School is a fun and unique way of bringing learning to life!
Supervised by our Head of Education James Woodward, Zoo School offers children aged 69 years four jam packed days of fun and creativity combined with the chance to learn about
some fascinating animals and their surroundings. This value for money experience gives
children a real insight into the animal kingdom giving them the opportunity to interact with
some of our resident animals as well as learning about the natural world.
Each day will run from 10am-3.30pm and will be themed around a specific topic; Rainforests,
All about Lemurs, Native Species and The Maasai. Each day children will encounter
animals, study animal behaviour and get creative as they begin to explore and learn their
topics. Plus there is an hour of play reserved each day so every explorer will be sure to have
a wild time!
Packed lunches need to be brought Monday through to Wednesday. An Explorers Feast is
provided on Thursday. Zoo School is for children aged 6-9 years with a maximum of twenty
children attending each week. The final day will end with the presentation of an Explorers
Certificate and some truly great memories to treasure.
There are a number of rules and conditions that must be adhered to. These are listed on a
separate sheet – please ensure you read this information carefully and make yourself
familiar with it.
Drusillas Park Zoo Summer School will run Monday – Thursday weeks commencing 3rd and
10th August. Participating children who are current Annual Members will receive a 10%
discount. Please note there is no sibling discount.

Zoo Summer School – Health and Safety
All animals naturally carry a range of microorganisms, some of which can be transmitted to humans where
they may cause ill health. The animals also have the potential to cause harm through biting, scratching
and their physical presence. Therefore it is essential that those taking part in the Zoo Summer School
follow closely the instructions given. Behind the scenes at Drusillas there are other work activities being
carried out which may present a risk if these guidelines are not followed.
