COINS Firstbase

COINS Firstbase
Firstbase provides a foundation for the quick and effective implementation
of COINS enterprise software, starting with pre-populated database tables
and configuration settings.
Rather than starting with a completely empty database,
COINS Firstbase provides pre-populated database tables
and configuration settings that are based on years of
experience in implementing COINS in companies throughout
the construction industry. While most tables are common
to all sectors, some have different versions for Contractors
and for House Builders.
COINS Firstbase simplifies the implementation process,
saving both time and money. For this reason, most COINS
implementations use Firstbase as the starting point. Later,
individual tables and configuration settings can be edited
or replaced as required, depending on the nature of your
business.
WHAT IS COINS FIRSTBASE?
OBJECTIVES
COINS had the following objectives when designing
Firstbase:
Basic, entry level configuration of COINS for smaller
companies.
Starting point for configuring COINS for larger
companies.
Reduced implementation time and expense by not
reinventing the wheel.
Enhanced reliability through use of a pre-tested
configuration.
Improved support through greater standardization.
Ability to provide standard training based on a
standard configuration.
COINS Firstbase includes hundreds of pre-populated tables,
COINS Firstbase is not a different version of the COINS
forms and configuration settings. Key examples from just a
software. It uses the same standard software as other
few of the modules are listed below to illustrate the concept
COINS implementations. The features that distinguish
and scope of Firstbase.
Firstbase are:
Standard configuration of COINS.
General Ledger Chart of Accounts.
Cost coding structure.
Set of standard lookup tables in nearly every module
of COINS.
Standard set of parameter settings in nearly every
module of COINS.
Set of pre-configured forms and reports based on
these coding structures.
The settings are fully documented, with spreadsheets listing
the main coding tables and parameter settings, notes on the
impact of changes to specific tables, and cross references to
where codes are used.

For contractors, the cost coding structure is simpler. This
allows users to develop it further, according to their specific
business requirements.
The Contract Status Ledger includes the following
predefined tables:
Contract types – to link to GL differently for different
types of contract.
Standard contract activities – contractors.
Cost heads – contractors.
Cost heads – house builders.
PURCHASE ORDERING
Commodity codes – contractors.
Commodity codes – house builders (based on the cost
head structure).
Order types – contractors.
Order types – house builders (including bulk and plot
scheduled orders).
Standard form layouts for purchase orders.
