Description
The Incline Village General Improvement District is currently accepting applications for a
Water/Wastewater Operator Grade I-II-III to operate and maintain the District's water and
wastewater treatment plants, water and sewer pumping stations, reservoirs and effluent disposal facility.
Occasionally may be required to coordinate projects or emergency responses. The senior level position
will also maintain treatment process data tracking, reporting procedures and take on lead responsibilities.
Position to be filled at the entry, intermediate or senior level depending on experience and certifications.
This is a bargaining unit eligible position.
Position Responsibilities (this list is not all inclusive of job duties and responsibilities).
The Operator I/II performs daily and weekly inspections of water and wastewater pump stations and
reservoirs, effluent disposal facility, water disinfection facility, and wastewater treatment plant. Performs
routine wastewater and water lab sampling and testing. Assists in operation of the District's water and
wastewater treatment plants and water and sewer pumping stations. The operator performs repairs and
maintains motors, gear boxes, blowers, pumps, valves, drives, piping, mechanical systems and chemical
feed systems, as directed. Checks and adjusts chemical feed levels. Documents and maintains records on
plant system maintenance completes paperwork as needed for cost reports, work logs, etc. and enters
data into a computerized maintenance management system. Fulfills "on call" requirements for a 7-day
consecutive period, on a rotating basis. Performs manual physical labor, often in extreme weather
conditions. Follows safety procedures and guidelines. Performs snow removal at the District's treatment
plant and pump stations.
Operator III also maintains proficiency in treatment process technology appropriate to IVGID
treatment plants. Maintains good working relationships with regulatory officials with jurisdiction over
District facilities. Performs maintenance and operational activities as directed by Water/Wastewater
Treatment Supervisor and others as needed. May act as Water/Wastewater Supervisor in their absence,
including inputting and/or monitoring employee time & pay records using an automated system to
ensure accuracy of records. Assists in compilation of reports for regulating agencies. Prepares reports
showing maintenance and treatment trends and summarizing effectiveness. Data management of water
quality, maintenance and treatment process parameters. Assists in review of project proposals and
administration of Capital Projects for improvement to treatment methods and processes at both facilities.
As directed by Water/Wastewater Supervisor; plans, coordinates and trains work crews. Oversees
preventative maintenance (PM) and facilities management software to assure accuracy and consistency
of database. Reviews PM reports and assigns PM tasks to plant maintenance crew members. Reviews
call-out reports and recommended remedial and corrective actions to reduce call-outs. Maintains, adjusts
and monitors computerized telemetry system. Records operations and maintenance activity on a daily
basis; enters data into computerized data management systems; maintaining accurate water and
wastewater treatment systems maintenance records. Recommends measures to improve operation and
maintenance methods, procedures, and improved equipment performance. Recommends projects during
annual CIP process. Follows, monitors and enforces safety regulations and procedures. Provides
technical support for operations personnel. Assists in preparation of operating budgets and capital
improvement projects proposals. Performs operational requirements of the District’s effluent disposal
facility, including monitoring water levels, valve settings, weather conditions and general maintenance.
Assists with other inter-departmental projects when needed.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Operator I: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and one year related experience;
or equivalent combination of education or experience. Pump and motor maintenance skills desired. A
valid Driver’s License and possess Grade I Wastewater Treatment certification from the Nevada Water
Environment Association (NWEA) and Grade I Water Treatment certification from the Nevada Division
of Environmental Health.
Operator II: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two years experience in a
related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Pump and motor maintenance
skills required. A valid Driver’s License and possess Grade II Water Treatment certification from the
Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Bureau of Safe Drinking Water and Grade II Wastewater
Treatment certification from the State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP).
Operator III: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five years related
experience in operations or maintenance of water and wastewater systems together with technical
training or coursework in biology, environmental engineering; or equivalent combination of education
and experience. A valid Driver’s License and must possess Grade III Water Treatment certification from
Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Bureau of Safe Drinking Water and Grade III Wastewater
Treatment certification from State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP).
Other Skills or Abilities
Must be self-motivated and show a high level of initiative. Available for and able to evaluate emergency
callouts and to work overtime as required. Good computer (excel, word, access, database program
specific to plant processes and maintenance needs, etc.), organizational, customer service and math
skills; and ability to work courteously and efficiently with the public. Effective communications skills to
participate in peer evaluations and feedback process. Able to write routine reports and correspondence,
and speak effectively with customers or employees. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret electrical
and instrumentation diagrams. Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally more than 100
pounds.
Compensation
Starting range $24.629 – $34.481/hr. (certified – Op. I) or $26.871 - $37.619/hr. (Op. II) or $29.056 –
$40.678/hr. (Op. III), depending on experience. This position receives a fantastic benefit package
