Welcome & Introduction of Team
Vonita Francisco
Each team member introduced themselves and told everyone why they are still involved in GS.
Name Game in Pods
volunteers
Everyone was seated in groups. At this time introductions were made within each group in order to meet new
people.
Pass the Hat
Stephanie Dyck
The Service Unit passed around a ‘hat’ to collect donations. The money is used to pay for the church we use for
Leader Meetings. This also means that the money we get from Council can be spent on the volunteers and
equipment. The ‘hat’ will be passed around at the October meeting also.
Setup/Takedown Kaper Chart
Wendy Brown
Wendy is in charge of setting up and cleaning up at the Leaders Meetings. This means she sends around a
kaper chart for volunteers to sign up and help. Setting up includes arriving around 6:15pm and put out all the
chairs. You would also be a greeter for everyone as they come in to the meeting. Clean up would be putting
away all of the chairs and helping the SUM’s pack up, etc. Contact Wendy if you can help.
Like Us on Facebook: Cedarandsound
Inger Faherty
If you’re not already on facebook – join the group now  Lots of great information gets posted and it’s a great
place to bounce ideas off other leaders.
Postcard
Sheena Good
A monthly ‘postcard’ (email) is sent out a week or so before the Leaders Meetings as a reminder. The postcard
tells you what will be happening at the meeting. If you aren’t receiving the email, let us know so we can add
you.
Placement
Linda Wold
If you have room in your troop, let Linda know. We are still working on who is exactly on the placement list but
once we have one, Linda would love to be able to place the girls.
Service Unit & Council Update
Stephanie Dyck
Council – Make sure you are checking your troop roster to verify all of your girls & adult volunteers are
registered for the 2017 membership year. Also make sure you update the Opportunity Catalog
(http://www.girlscoutsww.org/en/for-volunteers/resources/grow-your-troop.html) . The Seattle Office
building has been sold – will be relocating to the south Seattle area.
Service Unit – Chase Lake Elementary is looking for some volunteers. They have a program to help the
homeless kids in their school. Let Stephanie know if you are interested. A GS foreign exchange student would
love to volunteer with a Brownie troop – if you are interested, let Stephanie know.
Breakout Session by Age Group
volunteers
& CHECK YOUR FOLDER for important flyers
We skipped the breakout session because of time but we did remind everyone to check their troop folders when
they come to the meetings. There’s always great information.
TAST
Sheena Good
Sheena, with the help of Chelsea, went through the basic requirements for filling out the Travel Application for
Short Trips (TAST) form. Follow this link for more detailed information http://www.girlscoutsww.org/en/forvolunteers/resources/safety---permissions.html
Fall Product
Leslie Kemberling
There may still be time to sign your troop to sell Fall Product. Contact Leslie for more information.
100th Anniversary of Cookie Sales & Spring Encampment Linda Otto
At the Leaders meeting in October troops will need to turn in information on their cookie mom/dad. Linda will
need to have their name, phone number and email address. Requirements to be a cookie mom/dad are to
have a car, a computer and internet. Spring Encamporee is an event the service unit puts together; depending
on the camp sometimes there is boating or archery. Occasionally there is a program for the girls. The service
unit will be turning in a request in October and should know if/when we get a camp. Registrations for troops
will be in November and the first payment will be in December. Stay tuned for more information.
Cascade Challenge and Name tags
Ellen Govan
Cascade Challenge is an event in May (17-19) in Mt. Vernon that is hosted by our Service Unit. The event is for
girls that are 6th and up to spend the weekend participating in challenges like first aid, team dynamics, knots,
compass, etc. Ellen will be recruiting volunteers for judging the weekend events early in the year so look for
more information. If you are interested in getting a name tag, contact Ellen to place your order. The name
tags have the GS logo on them and run around $5.
Library
Ursula Jurgensen
Ursula brings the service unit library to each Leaders meeting. These items are for anyone to take home and
bring back whenever you want – no checkout procedure. Anything left in the library in December and June will
be taken to Half Price Books. Feel free to bring items to donate to the library for others to enjoy!
Women’s Retreat
Sally Page
This years Women’s Retreat will be January 27-29 at Camp McLeod and the cost is $55. Registration forms are
available online at www.cedarandsound.com. You can turn in the registration at any time; you just need to
pay by January 18th. The purpose of the retreat is for you to get away and enjoy the weekend with your sister
Girl Scouts! You can come and do nothing or do some crafts, put a puzzle together, read a book or go for a
hike. Whatever you wish!! You’ll get to eat lots of great food and meet new people.
Event Chart
Inger Faherty
Inger brought up the event chart to show which events are still available for a troop to sign up and put the
event on. Right now the events still available are Cookie Rally, Thinking Day and Bridging. If you might be
interested in putting on a program at Spring Encamporee (if we have one) contact Linda Otto directly.
Otherwise let Inger know you are interested. She will give you some direction on how to proceed.
