INVITATION
to the national info day for the co-financing programme
Intelligent Energy for Europe
The Energy Service of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the Cyprus Institute of Energy,
in cooperation with the European Commission invite you to the national info day for the co-financing
programme ‘‘Intelligent Energy for Europe’’.
The above mentioned programme aims to the co-financing of non technological actions in the fields of
Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Energy Efficiency and supports the policies of the European Union
as laid down in the Green Paper on Security of Energy Supply, the White Paper on Transport and other
relevant Community legislation such as the Directives on electricity generation from RES, the energy
performance of buildings and the biofuels. Furthermore, it supports the sustainable development in the
energy context, making a balanced contribution to achieving the general objectives of security of energy
supply, competitiveness, and environmental protection. The programme covers the period 2003 – 2006.
The next call for proposals is anticipated to begin in late September 2005 and close in early 2006.
The programme ‘‘Intelligent Energy for Europe’’ concentrates on the following actions and thematic areas:
SAVE
Improvement of energy efficiency and rational use of energy, in particular in the building and
industry sectors.
ALTENER
Promotion of new and renewable energy sources for electricity and heat generation and their
integration into the local environment and the energy systems.
STEER
Support for initiatives relating to all energy aspects of transport and the diversification of fuels.
COOPENER Promotion of RES and energy efficiency in the developing countries, in particular in Africa,
Asia, Latin America and the Pacific.
HORIZONTAL Support to the local communities for the use of RES and the rational use of energy and
KEY ACTIONS development of grant schemes for the encouragement of investments in related areas.
SEMINARS / Support in organizing seminars and in the dissemination of knowledge relevant to RES and
/ EVENTS
energy efficiency.
The national info day will include presentations regarding the actions and thematic areas, the available
funds and resources, the new call for proposals and guidelines for the completion of proposals forms. It
will take place on Friday 21st of October, 2005 at the Cyprus International Conference Center, in Nicosia,
between 9:00 – 13:30. For participation, please fax the attached participation form, duly completed
to 22304759, no later than Friday 14 October 2005.
