Basketball Team Rules - York County School of Technology

2016-17 York County School of Technology
Boys Basketball Team Rules/Guidelines
1. If any team member is absent from school the day prior to any athletic contest, they will
not be eligible to participate in the team’s next game (unless a doctor’s note or
extraordinary circumstances satisfactorily explain the absence to the coach). If they are
tardy, they may not be considered for a starting position in the next day’s game (Coaches
discretion). Excessive absences or tardiness will result in appropriate disciplinary action
by the coaching staff and may include expulsion from the team.
2. All athletic equipment furnished by the school is the responsibility of each team member,
including game uniforms, warm-ups, practice jerseys, combination lock, and gym bags.
Lost or stolen equipment will be reimbursed at the athlete’s expense based on decisions
made by the athletic department.
3. Neither the school nor the coaching staff is responsible for lost or stolen personal
property.
4. Proper dress code will be followed for both home and away contests. Wearing your
TECH hoodie is encouraged.
5. Playing time during contests is a direct result of execution in practice, work ethic, athletic
ability, attitude, attendance, academic eligibility, and behavior during the school day (this
includes the York Tech uniform policy). The opportunity to participate in athletic
contests is a privilege, not a right.
6. Inappropriate behavior, including foul language, will not be tolerated. Student athletes are
representatives of the school and are expected to represent TECH during all home and
away games. If necessary, disciplinary action will be taken by the members of the
coaching staff.
7. Travel arrangements are the responsibility of all athletes. The coaching staff will not be
held responsible for providing transportation to or from scheduled practices or contests.
Furthermore, it is expected that athletes not riding the activity bus will be promptly
picked up and vacate school property within fifteen minutes after practice or contests.
This policy includes practice or contest days in which school is not in session.
8. Player grades will be checked on a weekly (day by day if necessary) basis. It is the
responsibility of each player to maintain at least a C in each of their classes. In the case of
low grades, the after school “athletic study hall” will become an after school “academic
study hall” which will be held in room 1212. This will provide each player to work for
two hours (approximately three times per week) directly after school, with Coach Collins,
in order to catch up on any work they may be: missing due to an absence, incomplete or
make-up work, the taking/re-taking of any quiz or test (if the academic teacher deems it
appropriate to do so under the proctoring of Coach Collins), or homework. Please
remember that each player is considered a “student athlete” with the emphasis on
“student” first and “athlete” second. Any student failing more than a single class will be
ineligible to participate in games. Any freshman who needs help with school work may
be pulled from practice time and can utilize the study hall. Furthermore, any freshman
player who stays after school with a teacher, and, as a result of that tutoring, will be
excused from missing practice. Players are encouraged to seek the necessary extra help
they may need and to advocate for themselves. Coach Collins will proctor after school
study sessions as needed. Math and Science teachers may be available to assist with this
after school study hall.
I have read the above policies for the York County School of Technology
Boys’ Basketball Team and I agree to abide by these rules/guidelines.
