Dominoes
Drinking games: matchbox, fizz buzz, 21, never ever, fuzzy duck, yee-haw, would you
rather?
Darts
As few throws as possible to achieve either 301 or 501 points. Must finish on a double or
the bull.
Pool
Pot all the balls of one colour before your opponent.
Table football
Either first to 10 or score after a fixed amount of time.
Dominoes
First round the scoreboard to an exact finish. Doubles must be laid across the ‘snake’ (see
pic.) and do not count as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, but as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12. Points are scored by
dividing the sum of the end domino halves either by 3 or 5. Each player starts with 9
dominoes. The rest are discarded.
E.g.
Player 1 starts with:
4 + 6 = 10 ÷ 5 = 2 points
Player 2 plays:
3 + 6 = 9 ÷ 3 = 3 points
Players 1 responds with:
3 + 12 = 15 ÷ 5 = 3 points
3 + 12 = 15 ÷ 3 = 5 points
3 + 12 = 15 ÷ 3 = 8 points!
Player 2 has no good dominoes and must play:
3 + 1 = 4 = 0 points (cannot divide by 3 or 5)
Player 1 has no more dominoes with 3 or 1 and knocks on the table to declare.
However, player 2 can play:
3+2=5÷5=1
point
It is good etiquette to declare when a player only has one more domino in hand. The hand
is finished when either all the dominoes have been laid (bonus point to the player who
manages this – except when it means the player would win the game) or both players have
knocked. All the dominoes are turned face down, shuffled and then each player takes 9 new
dominoes. The rest are discarded and play continues until one player finishes exactly.
Matchbox
A matchbox is thrown end over end over a (pint) glass.
If the matchbox lands its longest, thinnest face, 1 point is added to the
‘pot’.
If the matchbox lands on its smallest face, 2 points are added to the pot.
If the matchbox lands flat, the points in the pot are drunk and the pot is
emptied.
Technically, there are 8 fingers to a pint, and 1 point = 1 finger.
If the matchbox lands in the glass, the glass has to be emptied by the thrower.
If the matchbox falls off the table, there is a 2 finger fine.
If the matchbox is thrown, hits the ceiling, and lands on the table on an edge, everybody
except the thrower has to empty their glass.
Fizz buzz
Any numbers divisible by 3 or 5 are replaced by the words fizz and buzz respectively:
1, 2, fizz, 4, buzz, fizz, 7, 8, fizz, buzz, 11, fizz, 13, 14, fizz-buzz, 16, etc.
Failures and mistakes are punished with alcohol.
21
The group counts from 1 to 21. The person who says 21 must drink and then replace a
number with a forfeit, dare, different word, or challenge. Anyone who says the replaced
number, instead of carrying out the forfeit, is punished with alcohol.
Each player can say up to 3 numbers in sequence.
Never ever
In turn, players make a claim: I have never ever… eaten sushi. Anyone in the group who has
eaten sushi, then drinks. If no one has eaten sushi, the person making the claim must
drink.
The strategy is to make claims that cause as many people as possible in one go to drink.
Fuzzy duck
The first person turns to the player on his/her left and says, “Fuzzy duck”. This player then
turns to his/her left and repeats the process. This continues until someone does not repeat
the phrase, but asks the question, “Does he?” The direction of play is reversed and the
phrase changes to ‘Ducky fuzz’. Any mistakes in enunciating the phrases clearly and
accurately are punished by alcohol.
Yee-haw
Play is in a circle and each command must be said in an enthusiastic, cowboy/Texan
fashion.
• Autumn years 1 beginners:
Yee-haw: swiping motion in direction of play with your arm. Play passes directly to
neighbour.
Hoe down: fist pump. Play reverses direction.
Hay barn: roof shape formed with you hands over your head. Play skips the next player.
Anyone who responds incorrectly or too slowly is punished with alcohol.
• Autumn years 2 intermediate:
Hey there lil’ doggie: index fingers like rabbit ears, point to a new player.
This town ain’t big enough for the… two of you: Point at two players at the same time. They
must stand up, draw their guns, and fire upon each other. The first to draw, wins.
I lasso… you two: Point at two players who must change seats quickly. The last to sit down,
loses.
• Autumn years 3 advanced:
Tumbleweed: everyone stands up, turns 360° and sits down again. Last player to sit, drinks.
Grenade: Everyone has to get under the table. Last man under, drinks.
• Autumn years 4 for experts
Cotton eye Joe: tip your hat to another player, who gets up and does country dancing
(Thumbs tucked into braces) accompanied by the lines from the song ending with yee-haw!
Billy Ray: Same as above, only with line dancing and Achy breaky heart and yee-haw.
Would you rather…?
The first player gives two options to the group (would you rather be able to talk to animals
or be able to speak every foreign language). After a few moments to think, the command is
given, “Now!” Those who prefer option 1 give a thumbs-up, those who prefer option 2 give
a thumbs-down. The group with the least number of thumbs has to drink.
