5 Steps You Must Take Before
You Choose Your Next Dentist!
Your smile can light up a room, it can open doors, and it’s the first thing that most people notice
about you. You know what you’re looking for when you book a hotel or buy a car, but do you
know what to look for when you’re choosing a dentist? Most people find they could use a little
help with this most important decision, which is why we’ve put together this Special Report for
you. I sincerely hope it helps you choose the right dentist, as that can mean a lifetime of dental
and overall health for you.
Here are the 5 steps you must take before you choose your next dentist…
1. Ask Questions!
Do not be afraid to ask the important questions like:
 How long have you been in practice?
 What are your specialties? (Some dentists are only experienced
in treating certain conditions or performing certain treatment).
 What are your credentials?
When choosing a dentist, be sure they are accredited with the ADA, and State Board, as well
other accrediting bodies such as the Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of
Cosmetic Dentistry, etc. To be a Member in Good Standing, dentists must attend continuing
education courses, which helps assure they keep current on the latest advancements in dentistry.
If you have a specific dental condition, such as TMJ, be sure the dentist you choose is able to
meet your needs. The problem is that some dentists have only done one or two cases for a
certain condition, and you may want someone with more experience in treating that condition.
2. Be Sure the Dentist You Select Takes X-Rays Every Year
X-rays are an integral part of your continuing dental care, so choose a dentist
who takes x-rays to rule out or identify problems before they get serious. Unfortunately,
there are some serious conditions that can first express themselves with oral, or bone
pain. Your dentist should be able to take x-rays while you’re in the office, and study the
results during your cleaning.
Remember: An ounce of preventive medicine is worth a pound of treatment.
We take preventive dental care very seriously, and so should your new dentist!
3. Ask For and Receive Information Before You Decide
Your dentist should provide information to you in writing about any
recommended procedure or therapy they recommend. This will give you a chance to
review the information and do your own research before deciding on a course of action.
You should never rush into a decision about your health.
4. Ask for References
A successful dental practice should let their work speak for itself. It is said that a
picture is worth a thousand words. Well, the word of one of your neighbors is worth a
thousand words from your dentist.
We treat each of our patients like a member of our family, and many of our patients are happy
to share their experience at our office with you. I’m also happy to provide you with references
from some of the professional organizations of which I am a m ember. My colleagues’
opinions mean a lot to me, and I’m confident they will give you an honest assessment of my
capabilities.
5. Be sure Payment Plans are Available
The dentist you select should offer a variety of financial arrangements to ensure that
financial considerations do not get in the way of necessary treatment. The smile of
your dreams should never break the bank!
While I am passionate about my work, I’m not a dentist who will try to convince you of anything.
My only goal is to educate you on your options, and show you just the kind of results you can
expect. Most of the time, this is as good as a sales pitch, but what I will never do is try to
pressure anyone into a decision. It’s entirely up to you if and when you schedule your treatment.
