EXCHANGE IT Exercises April 23rd, 2012 Riverside Theatres To get everyone into the same place and space. Close eyes, breath in and out, maybe make sounds if you like. Moving parts of the body, giving them a stretch or think about moving that part of the body if you can’t move it. Passing ball around and making sound of how you feel in your body Sitting down on chairs (or on ground) think about upper body strength- using fingers to point, hands to cut, wave, mush, wringing hands. Using a partner and pressing hands together with them to see if they can push you over. If they can’t use their hands, juts imagine and this imagination creates an internal dialogue. Finger dancing- find a partner join your finger together with theirs and the idea is to not let your fingers come a part as one person becomes the leader and one the follower. Then swap over. Extension of this is then have the leader be a ruler distance away from their partner and the follower has to follow that finger with their nose. The leader then takes their finger away and the follower then by themselves remembers how they were lead around the room and moves by themselves. Hypnotist- find a partner, one person is the hypnotist so puts there hand directly out in front of them the other person is the person being hypnotised. They are not to take their eyes off the other person’s hand whilst they’re been lead all around the room. Can add another hand and person to this, so in threes. Ca then add a foot to follow, elbow etc. Passing the funk. Group facilitator has something imaginary in their hands that starts with ‘F’ they tell the group that when the imaginary object is thrown to them it gets inside their body and makes them move a certain way. It keeps bee thrown to people and then at the end the facilitator asks everyone if they know what the object was and it is revealed that it was ‘FUNK.’ Group facilitator asks group to move around space and then on their call needs to find people to connect with. They may call out, ‘2 elbows’ or ‘3 hands and tow feet’ So groups have to form with these connections made. BUM- facilitator asks group to move around the space as if they have a large bum, a teeny tiny bum, a military bum, a floppy bum, pixie bum, cabaret bum and make the sound that that bum might make or say the word of that ‘bum description’ ie floppy. Bubbles. Blow some bubbles into the space for everyone to watch how they move and then get the group to move like the bubbles. Listen and respond to group facilitator as they call out when they are to pop, 1, 2, 3 pop. As a group come together and then as a group decide how you move a s a group and then 1,2,3 pop. Can also use feathers or paper seeing how they move and then copying that. Voice projection. Stand opposite a partner and whisper what you had for breakfast, then gradually get further and further a part till you’re on opposite sides of the room still saying what you had for breakfast. Then facilitator ‘spotlights’ people and they say still in that same loud voice what they had for breakfast and then they come back together closer again till they are back to a whisper. Can do this with movement as well and adding numbers, so small moves been number 1 and the further you go back that move becomes a number 10 move. Ahhh Bunny. Group stand in circle and as a group you all say ‘ahhh bunny’ together and clasps hands pray like and bow to one another. Then anyone can start to jump on the spot with their hands in a bunny like position and say rapidly ‘bunny bunny bunny.’ The two people either side of this person have to then quickly put their arm up either side of the bunny’s head and also say rapidly ‘bunny, bunny, bunny.’ Whoever falters or is late with their ‘ears’ is out. 21. Everyone stands in a circle and all focuses their attention on something in the middle of the circle. As a group now they have to count t o21 one number at a time. So one person starts with a ‘1’ and then anyone else can come in with a ‘2’ etc. If two people say the one number then it is back to the beginning. Bang, Bang, Pop. All stand in a circle, holding hands in a ‘gun like’ way. As a group everyone says, Ban Bang and then with gun like hands, POP and on this POP you need to have pointed your gun at someone or made a shield with your hands. If you have a gun pointed at you and you have not made a shield back to that person you die. This continues, ‘Bang, Bang, Pop’ till there are only two people left and these two people stand back to back and have a shoot out, saying Bang, Bang, and then one pop they turn and around and shoot, whoever is shot first dies and then other person is then deemed the winner. Make come emotion cards, eg happy, angry, sad. A person chooses a card without showing group and then embodies that emotion for the group to guess what it is. Magic Dust. Sprinkle magic dust over a person which makes them fall asleep as they wake the dust makes them feel a certain emotion, or become and certain occupation, or have a certain physicality. Use of words such as pull, push, twist, sway, brush, nod etc (can put them in hat for them to choose and form a sequence of moves). How do these words make your whole body move? Have a mystery bag or objects with a variety of textures for them to pull out and pass around. Miming an imaginary object from a bag, suitcase etc and getting class to guess what it is. Use different shapes, weights, qualities (spikey, smooth etc) Actions as movements eg throwing a bomb, archery, lawn mowing.
