2017 Call for Abstracts - Wisconsin Surgical Society

To members of The Wisconsin Surgical Society:
This is the first call for member abstracts for the Annual meeting of The
Wisconsin Surgical Society, A Chapter of the American College of
Surgeons, to be held on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4,
2017. We are looking forward to another excellent opportunity for
education and fun this fall. The venue will be The American Club in Kohler,
Wisconsin.
The Friday sessions will highlight research across the state through
presentations by medical students, residents, and fellows. The format will
include both oral and poster presentations. As in previous years, the
program will feature an update on ACS activities and "Expert Panel
Sessions" that will be clinically relevant for our members. We will again be
hosting the Physician-in-Training Cancer Research Paper Competition
sponsored by the ACS Commission of Cancer (CoC). The resident or
fellow author of the best Oncology research paper will represent our ACS
Chapter in a national Commission on Cancer research competition. Per
CoC requirements, Medical Students are not eligible for this award.
Saturday will feature the Beaumont Lecture. The speaker for the
Beaumont Lecture is yet to be named. Members and advanced care
practitioners are also invited to submit abstracts for oral or video
presentations on Saturday morning. We will also offer a "How I do it"
session for brief clinical reports, case series, and video presentations of
topics or operations within one's practice. To be considered for a video
presentation, simply submit a brief summary of content and informational
objectives through the abstract submission website. Please do not plan to
include voice narration in the video, and limit video length to 7 minutes.
Bringing along a backup copy of your presentation/video is highly
recommended.
All abstracts must be submitted through the online abstract submission
website at http://www.registrationconnex.com/wisconsin-call-abstractssubmission-form/
Please contact our Executive Directors to verify your member status with
The Wisconsin Surgical Society.
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, July 21, 2017. All medical
student, resident, fellow, and advanced care practitioner abstracts must be
sponsored by a WSS member who should plan to attend the meeting. If
the sponsor is not able to be present, the sponsor will need to arrange an
alternative WSS member to sponsor the presentation. If you have any
questions, please contact Dr. Funk at [email protected] or Dr. Ridolfi
at [email protected].
Our annual meeting is a great opportunity to discuss relevant issues
pertaining to the clinical practice of surgery in a way that allows our
membership to make and reinforce friendships across our state. The
venue in 2017 is a five star resort with a world class spa. Please
encourage your colleagues and trainees, especially those who are new to
Wisconsin, to submit an abstract and/or attend. We look forward to seeing
you in November!
Sincerely,
Luke Funk, MD, MPH, FACS
