Just imagine what you could do with your lottery winnings, pay off some debt, renovate your home, buy a
new car or just go out and have some fun.
As part of the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities fundraising efforts, the money raised through the
Lotteries, will go directly to our summer camping programs.
Since 1968, the BC Lions Society has owned and operated its three Easter Seals Camps where approximately
900 children attend the camps which are located in Squamish, Winfield and Shawnigan Lake. These camps
remain the largest and best equipped camps in the province that are specially designed and staffed to
accommodate children with disabilities.
With the help of our donors we are able to offer a variety of programs, including:
• 7-day - 6-night overnight camping experiences for children from the ages of 6-18 with mental and/or
physical disabilities. In total we provide 15 one-week camp sessions in BC
• Three 6 day - 5 night, Leader-In-Training Camps for youth with and without disabilities aged 16-24.
Giving them the opportunity to work and help out at our camps once they have graduated as a camper.
• New Camper Weekends for kids who are new to our program.
• 7 day - 6 night Young Adult Camp session at Camp Shawnigan for young adults aged 19-25 so they
can continue the experiences at camp.
• 3 day-2 night Family Camp Weekends at Camp Squamish and at Camp Winfield, this allows our Easter
Seals Campers to experience our camps with their families.
At a cost of approximately $2,400 per child to attend camp, Easter Seals Camps require over $1.4 million
each year to operate, maintain and staff. The BC Lions Society funds the camping programs exclusively
from revenues received through donations and fundraising.
In addition to the general operations, Easter Seals Camps require an additional $100,000 annually for
upgrades of new equipment, furnishings and special maintenance.
Special needs include:
Gymnasium and specialized sports equipment
Special beds and bedroom furnishings
Renovations for wheelchair showers
Replacement canoes, kayaks and swimming supports
