This popular local leisure facility is to be transformed into a modern, purpose builtz health and fitness leisure centre. The additional space made available by the relocation of the library to Deptford Lounge has meant that phase one of the redevelopment can start in November. Over a 10 week period the centre will see the construction of a state of the art fitness suite, group exercise studio, indoor cycling studio and café. Phase two and three of the redevelopment will follow soon after with the installation of an additional exercise studio, soft play area, new health suite with sauna and the steam room as well as essential enhancements to the leisure pool and flume and much more… To keep up to date on the latest redevelopment progress: •pick up the latest copy of this newsletter in reception; • go to www.lewisham.gov.uk/leisure; or •visit our ‘Redevelopment Update’ boards in reception where a regular posting from General Manager, Matt Larkins will be available. There are also some frequently asked questions on display here too. Meet your General Manager Enjoying the centre Welcome to Wavelengths Leisure Centre. I am Matt Larkins your general manager. Having recently been voted the best health club/ leisure centre in South London by our own members at the Health Club of the Year Awards, I feel particluarly privileged to be the general manager of this facility that is so popular with the users and the local residents. We will make every effort to minimise the disruptions within the centre whilst this redevelopment continues. Phase one works will be contained to the now empty library space, this should therefore have little effect on your experience at the centre. We will continue to keep you updated with any disruptions that may occur. Phase three of the works will also begin in November, which will see the leisure pool closed from Monday 5 November until March 2013 whilst essential enhancement works are undertaken. I look forward to displaying some plans of the new gym area and talking with you about my vision for the centre in the near future. I welcome any feedback on the development. I also hope to develop and launch a new studio timetable in the near future so that all of the borough’s fitness needs can be achieved in this centre. I am always happy to hear new ideas and welcome your feedback. I hope to see you soon.
