Pre-requisites for application: Completion of BIOL 2010 and 2020, PSYCH 2200 OR BIOL 3170; CHEM 1410, 1420, ! 1411, and 1421 OR CHEM 1810, 1820, 1811, and 1821, MATH 1210 or MATCH 1310 (transfer credit may apply) Requirements for graduation: BIOL 3000, PSYCH 4200 OR BIOL 4080, NESC 3980, and NESC 3985, at least two ! 4000-5000 level courses approved by the major. ! Approved courses that can go towards the 30 required credits for the major can be found in the Neuroscience, Biology, and Psychology Departments ! ! DECLARATION PROCESS Distinguished Majors Program ! ! A maximum of 25 students will be selected for the program each !year from a pool of applicants. Students will be chosen on !the basis of prior academic and research performance and an essay explaining the student’s interest in neuroscience. ! • • Students who have maintained above a 3.4 GPA in all courses taken as part of the major are encouraged to apply to this program in their 6th semester. COGNITIVE SCIENCE ! 30 Credit hours of Cognitive Science – approved courses Either Math 1310 (Calculus I) or Math 1220 (Applied Calculus ll) or equivalent approved course DECLARATION PROCESS A Cognitive Science course in each of the following five core areas: • Cognitive Psychology • Computer Science • Linguistics • Neuroscience • Philosophy Pick up a "Declaration of Major" form in the lobby of Monroe Hall. Do NOT fill out the form. On the Major Declaration Worksheet, list the courses you have taken and intend to take to meet the major requirements. Print a copy of your unofficial transcript from SIS. Make an appointment with the Cognitive Science Program Coordinator in 140A Gilmer Hall and take the above materials to your appointment. Minor: No A concentration of two courses at the 4000-or-above level(with the exception of Philosophy, in which *3000level Philosophy courses are equivalent to the 4000 level in the other core areas) in one of the five core areas, excluding directed readings, research, or internship courses. Both 4000-or-above level courses must be taken from the same core area. Majors may choose to complete more than one concentration. SPECIAL NOTES Before declaring, prospective majors must have completed and obtained a grade of C+ or better in two Cognitive Science-approved courses. These two courses must be from two different core areas: Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, Linguistics, Neuroscience, or Philosophy.
