Lesson notes and worksheet

8 What do people think? Plenary activity
Introduction
This activity asks students to consider four possible perspectives people have
about animal testing. They match statements to the four perspectives and then
for homework, construct an argument for two or more of the points of view.
Learning outcomes
Students will:
• appreciate that there is a range of perspectives on animal research and why
people hold them;
• develop skills of argument from more than one point of view.
Structure
Students work in groups
Resources
Resource: What do people think?
Activity
Students work in groups with the resource sheet. It shows four perspectives on
the use of animals in research, and statements by people who hold each point of
view. Together the students work out which statements match each point of
view. They can draw lines to link them.
Feedback – If working with an interactive whiteboard, students can come up and
move statements to the point of view. They can then be asked to move each
statement into position on a spectrum from Abolitionist to Anything goes.
In class or for homework, students might then select two points of view and build
an argument to support each one.
