SUEZ Cooperate with Everbright International to Develop
the Largest Hazardous Waste Treatment Project in Changzhou
20 Oct. 2016, Changzhou Binjiang Development Zone Hazardous Waste Treatment Project (“Changzhou
Waste Project”) jointly developed by SUEZ and Everbright International1 was inaugurated on site.
Changzhou Waste Project, with the total investment of 329 million RMB, is invested and built by SUEZ
and Everbright International by the shares of 50% to 50%. As the biggest of its kind in Changzhou, the
project has a designed capacity of 30,000 tons/year for the treatment of various hazardous waste. The
state-of-the-art incinerator will strictly meet both Chinese and European emission standards and be
managed according to the highest international safety and environmental standards as well. Moreover,
the energy from the waste incineration will be captured and used to produce steam as a green source of
energy for other facilities and companies within the development zone, thus reducing the use of fossil
fuels.
As a world leader in the sustainable management of resources, SUEZ currently successfully manages
12 solid waste projects in Greater China and is the leader of waste management in Hong Kong, handling
70% of its total waste and operating two amongst the world’s largest and most modern landfills in Hong
Kong. In Taiwan Kaohsiung, SUEZ operates Renwu waste-to-energy plant that can treat up to 1,350 tons
municipal waste per day; the energy produced from the incineration is recycled to generate power as
green energy. In Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, SUEZ manages China’s biggest hazardous waste
treatment plant with its the capacity standing at 60,000 tons per year, and in the wake of the ongoing
plant expansion, the capacity will be enhanced to 120,000 tons per year by the end of 2016. Consequently,
this plant will become the largest of its kind in the world. In Nantong, Jiangsu Province, SUEZ’s treatment
center has just been put into operation, which is capable of treating 30,000 tons of hazardous waste and
3,300 tons of medical waste per year.
Marie-Ange Debon, Senior Executive Vice President of SUEZ in charge of the international division
comments, “We feel very pleased to work with Everbright International for establishing the biggest
hazardous waste incineration plant in Changzhou and this one becomes SUEZ’s second project of its
kind in Jiangsu. Jiangsu province is one of the most industrial and developed area in China, which makes
it in great demand of sound environmental management. We are very willing to bring the technical
knowhow, specialty and management expertise to China for helping the local governments to build livable
cities and we will continuously develop innovative solutions to bring wellbeing to the local community by
green resources.
